Glad to see that VooDoo and PhoneGuy made it in. They have been putting in serious mods/upgrades to their rigs in the even that they got the call. Glad to see they did.

The funny thing is that only PhoneGuy and myself (as well as Fred Williams) were the only ones in the top 12 who were already trending #UA2015 on Instagram and Facebook...Oh well.

On to a great summer of wheeling for all.

Rick just called and let me know. He said that this is/was the hardest year to pick from. He said that he really wanted my rig in the group but that it just didn't make it in.

I thanked him and mentioned that this is the most work that I have ever gotten done on my rig in one swoop...and I have them to thank for it!

Best of luck to those that get the good call. I will be keeping tabs on the build-ups and such.

Bummer man, I had been pulling for ya and really wanted to see another tractor in it.

As Mieser said, get out and have fun anyways. I had done a roughy 1000ish mile trip solo a few years before I applied. It is a ton of fun to do a big wheeling road trip.

Thanks, I'm in PA, but life takes odd turns so maybe we'll meet in real life.

I have to admit I was surprised to see you pitch yourself in a commercial aspect- mentioning IG and FB... nothing wrong per se, just surprised me.

I guess it is an important aspect that I hadn't considered- free marketing.

Based on all of it... I'd guess the SW. Only one that haven't done more than once other than the midwest (which could be argued with 2011) and they did that last year. But Maybe it's just too easy of a choice?

I was really surprised you didn't make it in, I loved the look of your scout.

Yep, somehow I made the cut. I also noticed I'm the only fullsize rig this year, unless a sponsor brings one. Last year they had several, I have a feeling my doors and fenders might get a little modified during the trip. It's also a little shock that I'm the cover photo, luck of the draw I guess.

Now, soon as I get home from my trip I'll be starting the cage and checkin off my list of to do's for UA.

If ORD is going as a sponsor you won't be the only full size. The Watson's love them the big stuff. Congrats on going, the trip will redefine how you think about the sport. I think your truck is going to do great. Doors and fenders are cheap, just try and save the cab

Me too. I thought the '46 Chevy and HoS Scout had the lock

I feel proud to be chosen amongst such a stacked dirty dozen.
Work, and life in general, has got me really busy this month. Looks like I'll be even more busy. Visa will continue getting a workout

AZ and NM are two states I didn't see listed on previous UA's.
July would be freekin' HOT there. I wonder how General Pewe likes the triple digit temps? Cage mounted misters may be added to the mod list if we end up in the SW

I'd take the dry heat of the southwest in the triple digits vs. driving across Kansas when it was 107F and like 50%+ humidity. That was pretty crazy hot.

The southwest would have monsoons going by the 4th of July most likely. That makes the afternoons pretty nice.

I wonder if there were subtle hints about the destination in the following:

1. No Whining!
2. Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!
3. If you wear black, you will die.

Those are the standard rules. It's usually July and it is pretty hot everywhere.
Don't underestimate the need for protection from the sun.

From my armchair I am guessing the two following areas:

1. NM, AZ, NV
2. VT, ME

I brought this up with Rick since he said that he honestly hasn't nailed down exactly where the trip will go. BUT, with some things that I have been Google-Fu'ing I am voting that it will be in the South West.

There was some chatter on-line from them about how you can travel from point A - B without ever touching a high-way....

I was starting to prep my rig for the HOT. Still will as it is going to be a hot one this year in the mountains.

South West is just so hot during the summer. Im going with NW

Edit*** Just a thought... Have they ever done a night run? AZ at night in the summer is awesome. That could be a fun ride.

Pewe lived in AZ for a good amount of time. Im sure he loves and hates it as much as the rest of us.

Yes on the misters! When I had to DD my old TJ (black and no carpet) during the summer in Phoenix, I would grab a bag of ice, open it and toss it on the floor of the pass side. That wind would whip up the water and cool me down a little.

I can't believe I haven't seen this thread until now. I am completely in freak-out mode. Still lots of little things to get finished up before the big show. Can't wait to be out on the trails with these rigs.

VooDoo.. when were you at Ivy branch?

I was wondering if any other participants would show up here. Welcome Four0.

I got a little more done on my rear housing today after work. Seeing kinda what the truss will look like.

and installed some sweet custom flat fender overhead storage for sweatshirts and rain jackets ect.

I guess I should have given a little introduction before I went up and confused people.. I'm the guy in the Explorer. Most people call me Jack. lol

I still have to figure out storage.. been throwing around ideas, spending lots of time sitting and staring at the gutted empty space from the front seats back. I think I'll have a brainstorm/beverage drinking get together this weekend and see what happens.

Someone has been paying attention.

For us it worked really well. We could put a lot of stuff up there and it was easy to get to for both people.

Note. You need to tie up the middle of the net or else it will sag too much and everything migrates to the middle.

In an open vehicle it was really nice to be able to manage clothing layers as the temp changed without having to wait for a stop for the most part.

I did learn there is no substitute for waterPROOF rain gear with bib bottoms. The only thing I have seen that keeps the water out completely when sitting in a wet seat is the PVC style commercial fishing rain gear bibs. On the top you can get away with something lighter because you aren't sitting on it most of the time. If your in an open vehicle don't underestimate how water will go EVERYWHERE when your going 60mph on the road. One other thing that REALLY helped was that we picked up a window squeegee for the INSIDE of the windshield. That was a good job for the co-pilot during rain storms. Make sure you have waterPROOF storage for everything you want to keep dry. Having an overflow dry bag for your nice soft warm sweatshirts in the net is nice when your driving through a tornado.

My best advice, just because you have the space doesn't mean you have to take something to fill it up....

My version of what was needed for the trip.

Or you can go this way.
