The Badlands KOH qualifier on October 2, 2011 is the main attraction of “Ultimate Motorsports Championship” (UMC.) UMC is a very large, one-day event where top racers are crowned champions in multiple types of motorsport events such as TREC, cross-country ATV/motorcycle, and motocross racing. After all races are complete, there will be fireworks and various festivities, so plan to stay for the party!
This KOH qualifier race is unique, it will follow the general TREC racing format which is adapted to The Badland’s Off Road ParkTM terrain (i.e., this race course WILL NOT utilize any of Badland’s rocks.) This race is defined as, “Foot-to-the-Floor, Fly through the Air, Avoid that Tree, and Keep it on at Least Two Wheels!” You will be racing at high-speeds through mud (not mud bogging but natural trail mud,) up and over steep hills, through tight wood sections, across jumps, and race at high speeds on desert-style terrain. This race will kick off early evening and should continue for about 4-5 hours.
KOH rules/regulations and technical inspections will be enforced, however, there will be event discretion due to the unique style of racing and the competitor base.
Now that all the other qualifiers are over, we are now opening registration for the Badlands KOH Qualifier race to be held October 2, 2010.
We're coming out for this race from CT but I don't know how many guys can help us in our pit crew.
Is there anyone local to the Badlands or coming to the race who would like to help out a team in the pits? Or are there other teams who would be willing to share their pit crew?
We'd really appreciate any help we can get and we'll be sure to provide the   in return
We are only going to bring one guy with us this time, he has helped me build more than a few cars and you guys are welcome to share a pit with us. Just give him some pointers on what you need checked and have some gas jugs to use and he can help you out also, he will be happy to or he can walk home
I'm assuming the TREC race & the KOH qualifier aren't going to be run at the same time - if so - I may be available to help pit. PM me if anybody wants an extra set of hands. Also - I can post up in our local club forums (Lafayette, IN area) & get more help there.
Alright in reference to the rules and we are all clear. We want everyone to race and have fun and foremost, be safe. So with that said, we are asking everyone to show intent to follow the rules. In other words, try your best to have a truck that is safe and will be KOH worthy.
We've got a copy of the tech sheet that was used for the Ultra 4 stampede and will be using that as a guide/reference. It is pretty detailed and although we may not necessarily follow to the 'T', the main thing we are going to be looknig for is the important items that will keep you all safe.
In our own TREC series, we have had people showing up without the emergency breakdown marker lights. This sounds pretty trival, but it is an important rule in my opinion. It gets really dark out here at night and it is super hard to see someone or something that is in the track when you are flying around a blind corner at 50 mph. If you can not get a flashing light that is magnetic and operates independently of the vehicle, a flash light with duct tape or even a bunch of glow sticks would work....
Also, another thing we would like to speficially see is reflective vests. Again, it gets dark out here at night and it was just the last race I came up on a broken down vehicle and could not see the driver standing there until I was right up on him. With a reflective vest, you will not only be making a bold fashion statement (HAHAHAH) but the traffic will be able to see you if you get out of your rig.
A couple other items that stand out to me: Proper mounting of fuel cell, (ratchet straps are not considered proper) and window nets.
If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM or an email. If you call the office and Kyle is not available they have my number taped on the wall in the office, feel free to give me a call.
I am planning on having at least two tech sessions. One friday afternoon or evening and the other saturday around noon or so. Depending on the number of people and/or problems, we can do one last round of tech just before the event. Tech will be held in the "Upper parking lot" just behind the "Food stop". Look for the ornage TJ with the hacked up rear fenders #529. Thats me.
As far as meeting new friends...I hope ill be one...as far as having a good time...that shouldnt be a problem. Ive been hanging with them at these events all year and no one has done burnouts yet...but whose to say that will change. We usually have a good time. We watched Stan pass out around the last camp fire and when someone commented "stan passed out and hasent spilled his beer" He spilled his beer shortly after...It will be a fun time period!!!
Do you have a number on KOH cars that have signed up yet?? And did you get our check? it has not went throught yet, check would have been from Billy Briney.
Just want to add, Having a breakdown marker in the car is not doing any good if you dont take it out when you break down.
For KOH cars we will be checking to make sure your dust light is not on a switch. When the ign is on the dust light needs to be on. We had a half dozen cars at Stampede that left the line without dust lights on.
We have just finished wiring the car and we put the amber and flashing blue light on switches and marked them on the dash, so this is going to be wrong???
Here is a link for the one I use. I have seen red ones on the shelf at Tractor Supply and at the local trailer store. I like this one because, as Jon says, they are still blinking even if all power is lost in the vehicle. I have my amber one on all the time and I also carry a white one that I can place on the vehicle as well in case of a break down.
They both have super strong magnetic bases and I can move them to whatever side (or top or bottom) that happens to be facing the oncoming traffic.
If you can not get a set up like this, sticking to the KOH rules will be great too. Some of our TREC guys are carrying a flashlight or glow sticks too. The flash light would be better as it is brighter... The glow sticks might look like some 16 year old punk with neon under his chevette... I'd be like a throwback to the '90's dude!
Something tells me there will be more, still teams that are not in that want to be I am sure. But it would nice But I do really want to see how the car holds up to others in the 4400 class or if we will need alot more motor before KOH, I already know the driver and spotter suck Bigger test will come in Dec. when we run the last BITD race I guess. See you all there.
I see the three of us on this page plus Brandon (Dr Dino) Stan ( branik motorsports) and vu** and stoneman**. I think either Stan or Brandon may already be qualified?
I've been in the garage till midnight each night this week getting ready. the list is finally getting pretty short.
Looking forward to seeing the Badlands and meeting people out there!
