05 dodge 2500 power wagon problems.

Already posted in newbie section. No help there
having trouble with a friends truck.
replaced the battery and the starter and messed with the "switch" under the battery and it will still not start. the starter does not click like a low battery.... it will engage the starter gear and then cut off all together. seems like there is a switch somewhere that needs to be replaced, but im not sure where to start.. i am not familiar with these trucks.. any help would be appreciated... thanks.

Update...
Still haven't figured it out. It will start when we grounded the 86 pole (think it was) on the starter relay. Then we traced that wire back to the PCM and it has continuity where it ties in to the PCM. It will also start when we close the relay manually and turn the key at the same time. We tried swapping it out for a different one to no avail. After the truck sits overnight it fires right up. When it runs for 15 minutes and warms up and we turn it off and try to restart is when the problem starts. The engine doesn't turn over at all.

Have you checked for fault codes? An electric fan clutch failure can cause this. Should have a p0483 fault code if it's bad.

Hopefully that's helpful!

We will check again. But yes we did check. Maybe we can run it longer with the scanner on it. Thanks for the tip

Been a long day but are you saying it won't start hot even after you jump whatever pin or relay you were successful with? Is something getting heatsoaked, Starter, Relay, Harness?

No. It will start hot with trickery as stated. But if you walk out first thing in the morning after letting it sit all night it will fire right up like normal. After letting it run and shutting it off it will not restart.

Also checked for things getting heat soaked or melted. Everything seems ok. Might just put a new computer in it

Does it have an alarm on it. Had a similar problem and it was alarm and had to disconnect the alarm. Also does it run down the road good after it starts? Had a broken valve spring and truck would roll over but wouldn't start. If it did start it ran like shit and had no power. Just a few thoughts hope this helps.
