12v cummins knock

Im not familiar with engine noise diagnostics on diesels. I have a 93 12v cummins that has an intermittent knock. It doesnt sound anything like a gas lifter tick. I cannot seem to isolate it to any particular part of the engine. It doesnt get worse on acceleration with a pause interval like some cummins rod knock videos ive watched.
Thinking an injector may have been the culprit I cracked each line open. All 6 made the noise drop significantly and idle smoother once the lines were re tightend.
Im at a loss here. Im not ruling out a bottom end knock just yet, but being intermittent and the sound of the actual knock doesnt get louder with acceleration , just faster..... Any clues from you experienced diesel folks?

Did you check to see if the timing had slipped?

Iím betting an injector, have to try to get it knocking and then really pay attention to sound change while cracking lines. Iíve had some injectors so hard to isolate but youíll get it. Or you can wait until the injector sticks wide open and melts the piston then youíll really know which one . Also can check valve lash, sometimes they chirp through the intake but thatís usually after head gasket replacement when someone doesnít set the valves and they are to tight.

I recently had an issue like that, turns out that the injector wasn't seated properly. Loosened and tightened the retaining nut and the issue went away.
