Ford 5.0L Coyote (F150 vs Mustang)

Reading on the mustang and F150 forums about the differences between the Mustang Gt, Boss 302 and F150 Coyote engines.

It seems that despite the 50 HP difference of the f150 engine to the Mustang GT the price of the engine make it a good option.

I'm seeing F150 5.0 engines sell for $2-3k less than the asking price of the Mustang donor engines.

F150: 360HP/380lb-ft. 2015: 385HP/387lb-ft
Mustang GT: 412HP/390lb-ft 2015: 435HP/400lb-ft
Boss 302: 444HP/380lb-ft

Differences/similarities between F150 vs Mustang 5.0 - Ford Mustang Forums : Corral.net Mustang Forum

F150 Coyote Difference

Some differences being:
10.5:1 CR vs 11:1 CR
exhaust manifolds
Intake/exhaust cams
Tune

The Boss and F150 engines have oil coolers.

Hopefully the few guys running these engines will give us their opinions.

The F150 engine seems to a viable option for upgrades.

you got it, and if I remember right, just the intake cam is different? I looked it all up in parts a while back and ended up scoring an 11' stang' engine on an insurance job. I wouldn't hesitate to snag a f150 engine..

I'd love to build an Ibex with a 5.0 or a raptor motor. I need to research transmission options though.

With the ford racing harness for manual transmission you can use a non computer controlled tranny like the th400.

Alot of the KOH racers seem to think the th400 is as stout as they come.

I talked to Reid Racing about their SH400 offroad case. He mentioned the Ford racing program uses their SH400 case with the help of Joel's On Joy transmissions in Michigan.

Most of them koh racers follow what someone else did and not realize the why behind it. Run a 5r110 or a zf 6 speed if you're man enough to bang gears.

I rebuild a few th400's for these deals, they work but are not perfect by any means.. look into aem's pcm for the coyote, fully tunable and does the vct also. rep at sema told me they were getting 485hp with a base crate and a set of long tube headers.. pretty good, they rev real nice and make power to 7k rpm's stock, pulls all the way through.

First year of raptor only had the regular 5.4 then the 6.2 once it was released. 5.8's are a Shelby only stroker 5.4 motor.

My bad. I was trying to remember the door badge. Are they in the coyote family?

When I I test drove a 5.0 truck, it felt powerful, yet sluggish and didn't like to rev fast

Almost like it was detuned

I went with the Eco
