Needs more pics

Pretty slick on the winch setup, I like that. You said it's around 4" of lift with springs pulled? How bad do the 40s rub & how much is cut off the front fenders? I had 37s on mine with no lift with minimal rub, wanting to go to 40s soon with a little more room to move around.

the springs are deaver 6inch springs so lots of leafs and really thin and he pulled some to drop the ride height down so we are thinking they are more like 4inch now. ill try and get a pic of the fenders to show the cut but pretty much its just the back side that is cut and now with the 40s looks like he will have to cut the bumper corners back as tire gets into it as full stuff and turned.

Be cool to run some tube that goes over the cab and into the front fenders, tied into the rear halo.

thats the plan, over the cab then threw the fenders so kinda like a hybrid exo as also wants to do seat bars in the cab and tie them into it all as well

he never did any more tube work on anything else to the truck but did go to the Houston bog and obstical course and ran stong all weekend to place again even if had some carnage

its a great event put on by one of your good friends and its just beautiful as the mountains are right there as a back drop

I was only able to make it there for the one day to help and watch but got the call saturday that he cracked the bottom of the rad where the mounts are and to bring water so he could run the next day. got there and they had fixed the rad with some water weld and where just waiting for it to dry. in the morning we tossed the rad back in and it held together to finish the day

nice part of the 5.4s in the super dutys is there is lots of room under the hood

blew a hub apart the first day on the obstical course when he got stuck. replaced it and was good to go. so might be time for some slugs

last run of the day he took off and broke the rear yoke ears off and the drive shaft was flying around but didnt damage anything.

small update but nothing really new

changed out the rear yoke and fixed the front hub after Houston

he did a new rear diff breather

and PG had some mud bogs but both brad and I where out of town so his girl friend drove, did well in the 40-44 class and placed 3rd in powder puff and even got a trophy

but on her last run she hit the wall and busted another hub and outer shaft

he got his last set of driver side shaft in tonight and ready to go again

small update as rig got a few upgrades over the holidays

after smashing the bottom of another rad it was time for a change, old rad hung down below the frame so he went with a econoline van rad as they are same size other then being about 4 inches shorter. cut the lower rad support off and built a new tube one. also changed out his fan set up for a dual maradyne set up and installed a 6.0 trans cooler

old set up showing how low the rad hung down

new

went out on new years day and everything worked great till he blew another hub/stub shaft. so he now has some chromo stubs and flanges on order so might be able to make more then 1/2 trips before braking axles and hubs

I Like the way you are going on your build! I too, have a S.D. w 5.4 and 39s. I paid $950 for it!
Mine has 5;13s welded diffs and stock springs w a 4.5" home-built hanger drop on the front and modded stock rears. Rides awesome works great. But it is Heavy ! I built a front bumper and incorporated a 1/4" AL skid plate into the bumper and shackle drop, to save the radiator. It has 211000 miles and was running great until my transmission started slipping.....Backs up perfect but won't pull in 1st.

he talked about just building a skid plate to protect the rad but rad was messed up so was just better to find a better fitting rad. seems like trans issues are common with these trucks as his seems fine but is starting to show its age for sure. not sure if anyone makes a manual valve body for the 4r100 as that would be great for this truck as seem to take a bit for the 1/2 shift. he did put a tuner in and bumped the line pressure and that helped but still little slow on the shifts
