he got some more work done this weekend and we went out wheeling and truck worked real well

had a friend cut out some steel for a new upper rad support, says "on time, every time" on it. the doors have the same saying on it and has become a thing for the truck as has never missed a wheeling trip

he bent up some tube on the front bumper, will tie the exo fender bars in to it

went out wheeling but the snow was too deep and crappy so could not get very far

not much new with this truck, just been out getting beat on.

he took it out of town for some snow wheeling but snow was deep and just sugar snow that could not get on top of

when he got home he had to do a rear center pin

headed out again this weekend, not much snow left around our parts but the stuff we did was crap as just ice under it so was a mix of snow, mud and ice. made for a fun day with some good carnage. welfare was the hero of the day as zero issues and was pulling strap or winch all day

had a little pucker moment when got little off the right line and wound up sideways on a hill. was about a 3 foot drop into the creek on the drivers side

Any real noticeable gain going with the big exposed filter? I know that is super popular on the diesel trucks.....

do it as truck is fairly basic and just works for what it is

might be able to pick up a few extra hp with the filter like that as it will draw a little more air. in our area there is just to much mud and water for running a filter like that even with the inner fender liners. hes still running the stock set up but it draws air from the top of the grille and has soaked a few filters from water splashing up. we had talked about trying to keep the stock intake and just moving it so would not get direct water on it but be a bit harder to re work it now that he has the air compressor mounted on that side of the inner fender

i actually built the flat deck for my 79 then gave it to him when he was building this truck. the tubes are sch40 and the top plates are 3/16, it has held up really well and he rubs it on trees and uses it as a pivot point all the time

can see more pics of it when built it for my 79 in the build for that truck

Thanks, looked through the build and it was very interesting. Nice diesel swap. The bed was very well thought out with some extra surprises that worked well

That is my truck / filter, v-10. No idea on any gains.
I switched because I was getting dust in the intake with the stock junk.

They do make big pre filter bags for mud though.

not much for an update but he unloaded the truck finally and started to look at it and work on it last night. trying to get ready for a race in 2 weeks time.

lifted the ass end to check for ujoint bind as has had a few issues with ujoint straps binding and blowing out on the back when at full drop. looks like the drive shaft is about an inch to long as fully compresses before full drop so has to fix that. will also clearance the yoke so no more binding and maybe a limiting strap as well. he did get his tcase clocking ring in and after beating the cab floor a bit the bottom of the tcase is now higher then the trans crossmember. will do a skid plate to cover the tcase and some of the trans pan as well

not to bad amount of droop for some old deaver springs

so he finished clocking the tcase, he had to cut some reinforcement out of the cab floor as it was touching. he also built a skid plate for the tcase and wants to add to it later to cover the trans pan as well

he was still worried about hitting the rad so made a skid plate off the front bumper to protect it. its welded to the bumper then bolts to the frame so will be removable with the bumper

then he stole a piece of plate that i had cut out for my truck but hadnt got around to putting on yet

and did some measuring for limiting straps and they should be here end of the week just im time for racing this weekend

and the best mod, his GF got him a nice big Welfare decal
