Trail Help

We came across a tree that fell across the trail just as you exit out of the little seasonal creek below WH5. We didn't have our saw with us but it needs to be cut out of there soon. If you're up there with a saw please get it off the trail.

The Madhatters 4x4 Club, one of our adopt a trail clubs, removed the tree over Memorial Day and are currently planning a work day to fill and harden that spot.

In the mean time I'll ask anyone heading up trail to grab a rock or two somewhere above WH4 to throw in the hole. It's about 200' before the water tank.

Can the info for this and any other days be posted? I have no problem going up there and lending a hand. Even weekdays, with enough notice.

Honestly, a couple of yota's with beds are best for hauling rock.

The adopta trail clubs are working on coordinating a work day asap. Once we get that planned I'll put it up on FB.

In the mean time please toss as much rock in there as you can. Rock from above WH4 and right at the water tank is available.

we tossed a little in there this weekend with some help but it's going to take a lot more. It was completely impassable when we got there, I could not even winch over it. It was driveable when we left but probably not for long.

Good job Scott! The biggest fear I have is that most casual users aren't that motivated to help and will start looking for ways around

The Madhatters have a tentative plan right now to come up on the 20th to work on the trail between WH4 and 5 to harden those holes.

Ok, so the Madhatters have settled to meet at the top of WH5 at 8am on the 20th. We're going to camp at the Upper Little Truckee campground on Highway 89 Friday/Saturday nite.

Logs make easier fill on the bottom of a hole and are less prone to disappear into the mud with vehicle travel. Top it off with rocks, bigger is better. Top the big stuff with little stuff to lock it together.

Hats off to FOF, MH, WeBilt and others that have done the work up there.

Don't forget Fourdice 4WDC, another Adopt a trail club.

We spent 6+ hrs on the big mud hole & creek crossing below the water tank on Saturday and got it pretty well hardened with a number of trees and roughly 18 loads of rock, on top on the 6 loads of rock a couple of our folks hauled in there a few weeks ago. With luck, it will hold up for awhile now. Thanks to all that lent a hand throughout the day, some just passing by and others (Scott & Tony in the Toyota) who came up to spend the day and were invaluable to the effort since their truck was vastly more efficient to haul rock than the military trailer we brought. Before, during, after shots:
