Exclamation Fordyce Fire near committee crossing

So what is with all the stoopid people having illegal fires on or near the trail? There is currently a fire that started just downstream of the committee crossing that has been burning for a couple of days. According to the forest service there were also 5 illegal fire tickets handed out last Sunday 9/4 in that area. Do people just not care? This could greatly impact our ability to use this great trail.

Stop having illegal fires!)

most people dont even know there is a presidential election in less than 3 months. people are for the most part, stupid. You could have a giant neon sign that read "NO FIRES" and you would still have idiots lighting fires 2 feet away. When confronted they would just say, "oh, i didnt know".

I called in the eagle fire at 6am the same day as the Phoenix fire started. I done see it as a coincidence that 2 vegetation fires very close to the trail started in 1 day.
The eagle fire appeared to be in the pierce creek ohv area.

Somehow not surprised - last year when my club was up doing a cleanup run in the early spring, there was a group of drunk/stoned asssholes that came across Committee, drove over trees/bushes, played around the notch, rolled with yard sales of booze bottles and started a cooking fire to make lunch, kicked it all over the place and left. The only reason I think they cleaned up any of their trash is we were there watching the spectacle. We hosed down the coals and cleaned up the rest of their crap. I'm sure this is a daily scene there judging by the trash at Committee lately. :-/

There are no open fires allowed, why do they mention this?

“Forest visitors need to make sure they are recreating responsibly so others can enjoy the same experiences. Build campfires only in designated campfire rings. Fires need to be dead out – use water, stir and make sure they are cold to the touch,” said Allen.

It should say that there is a ban for open fires until the ban is lifted.

Please ask your fellow your fellow trail users to put out their illegal campfires. Not everyone is approachable but I've never had an issue and 100% of the time I get the "I didn't know" line. Most people are willing to listen to you if you aren't a dick. Again, if you see someone out there let them know the ticket is fat and you're trying to save our trail. BTW the ticket can go to each person around that fire....not just one person.

Don't be that guy...

Truly sad to see but we are all lucky it didn't burn more. Pay attention folks and when they so no burn it means no burn. I like many others run a legal propane fire pit for this time of year. I know it's not the "campfire" but you need to deal with it. Don't be dumb.

A group of us were up there about three weeks ago and we extinguished a fire that had been left burning at the big camp site at committee....
We were all amazed at how careless some wheelers continue to be.
Its not like were NOT at the APEX of the closure "hit list" or anything.
just IGNORANT and DUMB!!

Because fires are still allowed in the forest in rings at designated camp areas.

Propane powered stuff is allowed, but you need a fire permit to have a propane fired anything.
