What's going on with Fordyce Lake?

I was out there a few weeks ago and went up signal peak. We ran into these guys on the way back down to the lake wheeling a boat

IIRC they were doing something with the dam, but I don't remember everything they said they were doing.

The lake was mostly drained too.

PS, if someone found my center cap on the trail, I would pay for the shipping to have it back

PG&E will be working on the dam for a while. That's why the lake is so low and flows are consistently above 300 cfs.

PG&E is planning substantial work on the dam from late 2019 thru 2024. We (FoF) are discussing with PG&E this week their plans to close access to the Committee trail to Fordyce, as well as the road to the lake from the bridge on down.

If they are doing a bunch of work on the dam, does that mean flows down Fordyce Creek will be extremely low until 2024?

depends on how much snow it gets and how fast or slow it melts, but late summer yes i would imagine the flows will be low every year while they work on it

im glad theyre doing work though, last year we climbed all over the dam and its seen better days, especially the cat walk

Flows will remain high until the lake is at a level they can work on it. Plan is to keep it low, so depending on snow and rain next year flows could be high again to drop it for work next summer and so on.

I'll have more info after our meeting Thursday about flows and logistics. It does sound like they will have some way to control flows as they committed to holding back the flow for Sierra Trek each year.

Any idea if we can ride quads to Lola Montez?

Wife won’t wheel but looking to escape the heat and she can only handle FS roads.

Thanks in advance.

The last time I went up that way they had signs that said street legal vehicles only. This was 5+ years ago.

Any update on the gate closure? Will we have access or will that exit be off limits?
