brand new Ford Ecoboost. figure out what size "offroad 4x4" you want and pick an engine to suit it.

this is ridiculous

It's hard to beat the GM LS series small block V8 motors. I'd argue they can be swapped into ANY chassis on the planet, with a little dedication. For their power output they are fairly fuel efficient a well.

I would get whatever motor is most readily available in your area and has good part support.

FRPP 514 offers the best economy hands down.

Yes but the price diffrence between the ls3 and a FRPP 514 is not worth the 2 mpg extra i gues

v-dub turbo diesel... but that's just me.
if you have to run gas, then the jeep 4.0 with a 5 speed tranny. lots of torque and not bad mileage depending on how you drive.

if you have to worry about the cost of fuel, you can't afford to build a rig.

on top of that, LPG is going to change the parameters of "fuel efficiency" that you are looking for.

What country are you in?

I'd take diesel over lpg any day. You don't have to worry about fuel economy when you're getting your fuel from the local fish&chip shop.

that is a Chrysler motor/transmission. it was used in jeeps from the late 80's (irrc) until just a couple of years or so ago.

No lpg is cheaper for me as diesel is 1.44 here and lpg 0.69 and vegetable oil is also more xpensive than lpg
