Tranny went out of my daily driver (2004 2500 HD 6.0 chevrolet). I have a very low milage 4L80E out of a 2005 2500 HD. A salvage yard interchange book said the two would not interchange. The two trannies look the same one is marked 4 BSP the other 5 BSP. Can anyone tell me the difference? Both trucks also have the MT1 option code in the glove box and both trucks are 4x4. Thanks
but i manage a snow removal fleet that has 11 2500hd chevys between 1999-2007classic
the guy who builds our trans told me if i wanted a spare they would all interchange, there are just minor internal changes through out the years. Now im not 100 percent on this but i would think maybe the only difference would be a electric plug possible for the neutral safety stuff possibly.
I used to rebuild transmissions, like said above they will all interchange. Most of the issues are the range switch on the side, just swap you old one on.
It's the PNP switch on the side as mentioned. Just unbolt your truck one and bolt on to the new trans you don't even have to unplug it everything else is the same.
Where was this advice before I destroyed my plug trying to get it apart. Mine was glued in, and is a mess now.... I need to graft a new plug on one of these days.
Quick tip on getting those connections on the PNS loose. Hang a regular work light beside it for a few minutes to get the connection nice and warm. It pulls apart easily onces the glue is warm.
