So I just got off the phone with Eaton and i was told that they do not have an e-locker for the 14bolt (full floater) and even with the 14bolt's popularity, I was told that they have no intension on building one.
Personally I think it's a bad business decision with how many millions of these axles are under pick-up's and box trucks, let alone all of us using these axles under our wheeling rigs.
The ARB is listed at $1075 which seems pretty insane for a locker, but i'm not left with many options being that i want a solid lock and completly free unlock in my rig.
Maybe if we make enough noise, Eaton will listen. I've used there lockers in my old dana 30 & Ford 8.8 and loved how fast they engaged and disengaged. I never had a problem with the locker, and the only time that i ever snaged a wire under the vehicle, i was able to crawl under there and twist some wires back together to get it goin.. i didn't have to deal with air leaks in the mud!
I bought one for my Dana 60 front axle.. now i want one for my 14b rear...

There is a good chance it would be in the $900+ catagory so, based on your above statements you wouldn't buy it anyway. Basically them not making something you won't buy is, in all actuality, a great business decision.
The detroit is a drop in item - $450-$500 new (made by eaton)
The ARB is a selectable - $1000-$1200 new
What price point would you accept for the eaton for the e-locker?
honestly, i'd pay more for the e-locker than i would for the arb. I want it to be able to be completly unlocked for "dig" & street use, but locked solid for crawling.
An electrical wire is just as susceptible to a random stick causing damage to it as an air line....Christ, my old OX lockers would f-up if you sneezed near em, let alone a stick/branch/rock. If it has something going to it, its susceptible. Bluetooth E-locker???
Sounds like the perfect solution! But.... I wheel in a lot of sticks and brush and don't want to worry about snagging extra wires running down my frame. It also sounds messy to splice wires back together in the mud.
I've run ARB's for twelve years on five rigs. I have a patch kit, but have never used it nor have I loaned it out. I did have to borrow one on the maiden voyage of my first buggy after a belt routing mishap. I changed the air line routing afterwards and never had another problem (even though it took 3 more trips to sort out the belt issue).
I went through this last year about tax time. Eaton told me the same thing. I bought an arb front and rear. It took a couple days to get a couple leaks fixed. I haven't had any regrets. I have had zero issues since.
Why not just run whatever line it is that you're afraid of breaking (air or electric) down a small metal tube that is welded to your top link thereby nearly eliminating the possibility of snags? Or better yet, run sealed rod end bungs and pressurize your entire link with air for the ARB, then just run a small soft line from the link to the axle?
I'm guessing it's for the wrong r&p size or you would have considered it. I believe the one I have has not been made for quite a few years, dunno much about it other than that...
Ok, I'm quoting my previous post. I'm under the impression the locker I have for sale is an Eaton electric locker for a 14b - just hasn't been made for a few years. Anyone know anything about it?
how soon is now? ...... and no thats not a smiths reference.... id be picking up a 14b for my FJ if i could get something along the lines you speak of. :smokin:
My rig is mainly street use with a little offroad, a mechanical or even a posi would probably work okay for me, but I'd gladly pay a little extra for a selectable. I like my open diff for the snow and on-road mannerisms.
Eaton makes an E-locker for the semi-floating 14b with a price tag of about $750, seems a decent baseline price comparison. Not only is the ARB locker more expensive at $1100, but I would need to add an additional $250 minimum for onboard air. Add lines and fittings, and I've doubled the cost of the e-locker.
Yes, I'd be willing to pay $900 for an e-locker for my 14B, but the option simply isn't available to me.
Eaton makes an ELocker for the 14B SF axle. It's a c-clip axle with a 9.5" ring gear. It's a 33 sp unit that also fits a Dodge AAM 9.5" front axle (with a little grinding). It's a 2 pinion design that's not really strong enough for aggressive off road use. It was designed as an OE unit for an H2.
I did have my ARB compressor's tank fail one day on the trail. I had everything plumbed in case of a compressor failure so I could charge the system with CO2 but not if the actual little tank attached to the ARB. Rather than wasting everyones time re-plumbing the arb, I took an alternate trail where I ran over a stick that went into the frame rail and destroyed my rear brake line, line lock and tailight/rear winch wiring. However, since I had a detroit in the rear, I wasn't stranded without any lockers. Doing it over, I would do front and rear auto lockers on my trail rigs. No lines or compressors to fail. (It was easier and cheaper to just put in a new compressor on this failure but starting from scratch. Not to mention I could have saved $750+ up front).
Pirate 4X4 is the dumbest site out there with attitude. This guy was asking a great question as to this is what this hobby is all about but all you idiots answer so rude like.
This is why I hang out on sites that actually help people, so long Pirate
4X4, you and all these people suck....
