Looking at a very low milage LY5 with a TH350. Who here is running the LY5 and how is it performing so far. Likes and dislikes. What about the LY5/TH350 combo, any reason not to run the TH350 with the LY5? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your input.
I had the gen III L33. I run that same combo. Hughes built TH350 and atlas 3.0. Its a bad ass engine and takes a beating. Won a good many races with it and would imagine the Ly5 would be the same. Good luck!
There is a little difference between the LY5 and L33, mainly the DOD or AFM (displacement on demand or Active fuel management). From what i've been reading the LY5 has a burning motor oil issue. I was wondering if anyone on the board was running the LY5, if so what year and are you experiencing the burning oil issue. The LY5 I am looking at is a 2011 version, so I am not sure if it's an issue with that version. I read that GM acknowledge the burning oil issue and addressed, but I can't find when it was address and what year engines are now not affected.

The oil consumption issue is related to the AFM. Deleting it would help stop alot of that. Basically the fix or attempted fix is a improved pass side valve cover baffle for the PCV system.
EDIT: There is no 2011 LY5 I am aware of. IIR the LY5 ended in 2009. If the motor has VVT is a 2011 unit. Unless it was deleted as well. And goes by a different RPO code.
I have a low milage 2007 LY5, and indeed there's some oil consumption. I wasn't aware of this until one day decided to measure the oil level. As for the motor, I have some issues with O2 sensors on a modified harness, but that just be me.... my 2 cents.
