i have a set of the dana 60 300M RCV's and i have a set of branik yukon 4340 chromo shafts clearanced for 50 degree's with the new style longfeild 300M u-joints.
these are out of my current dana 60's. I'm building a set of 9" axles for the new build and i'm undecided on what to use. i like the 50 degree's but the RCV's get 45 and thats pritty damn close. i like how the RCV's are smooth at full lock.
i've only ever broken 2 RCV's but i've broken probably 6-8 stub shafts inner shafts and u-joints.
i like how easy it is to carry a spare for the regular u-joint style shafts, I'm not made of money so carrying a spare longfeild isn't an option....but hell....i've only ever broken 2 (and it was at the same time during an extration from a rugged trail.
both have their benefits, this rig will be raced and trail wheeld.
A spare bell and stub isn't really that much money especially since you could sell the clearanced stuff. your record of breakage seems to answer the question for you. when you factor in travel to races and entries feels and fuel, do you want to risk not finishing or winning a race due to running shafts that you aren't 100% sure in.
on the flip side once you pull off the hub/brakes/spindle to remove a broken shaft/joint/bell why can't your spares be the 50deg shaft set on that side until you get home and have RCV warranty their stuff? Perhaps your long side inner can be cut down by RCV to make a new short side or long side depending on the new axle width and offset.

ever break i've had was a yukon clearanced from branik. i've had 4 break in or around the stub, one broke in the clearanced part on the inner and one on the outer.
Can you elaborate on this? I am in the market for two sets of axles and Yukon has been looked at. Not a lot of recent feedback as to the current quality that does not come from someone sponsored by them.
Quality is hit and miss, some are broken when "new in the box", some break on the first run, some last for years. The outside diameter of the shafts are too large to fit through the knuckle, the inside of the yokes bind at full lock with stock steering stops. They are the lowest quality cromo 60 front shafts available. Besides all that, some guys love them.
Anything can be broken. Some people are smarter than others. I'd much rather spend a few secs to backup or correct the line. Than spend a few hours repairing a busted shaft.
