dimpling

after reading the thread below and a few others i was wondering how dimpling make the piece stronger? i have seen it on prerunners and other stuff ...

Pretty much the same way that a piece of angle iron is stronger than a piece of flat steel. You are increasing the moment of inertia on the piece. This also answers the question of flat plate hummer centers vs. a contoured center.
