Suspension Bench Seat - Dumb Question

Tore apart a friends "brand name" suspension bench seat to find out what was hurting passengers backs. Found these 4 pieces of square tube welded to the seat side of the back. The padding was cut out around them, and as people bounced around - of course their backs would be hit by them.

Anyone know what purpose they might serve? I cut them out and put the seat back together.

but wouldn't those go on the other side of the back? Like where they wouldn't hurt passengers.

Seems like they would go on the other side...

If you fuckers actually took a second to read the words rather than knee jerk reacting to the pics, you might have a clue what his plan is.

Absolutely. I'm not at all saying it was a good design, but that's the only thing I can think of those being useful for.

Did you call the company and ask yet? I'd be interested to know.

as you might be able to tell from the pics, it's not new and well used. Didn't try calling, thought someone here might have seen it or know. I took em off so no longer an issue.
