4,3 Question

For a 95 4.3 vortec, is there an idler pulley setup that can go in the place of the a/c compressor? Or do I need to have the a/c to make my belts work. I picked up a motor and this is the only thing it didn't have.

Here is a pic to show what I'm talking about. Upper left hand corner of the motor.

Couldn't you just get belts for a 4.3 w/o A/C? Or do you need the tensioner? I know on my 96 (different from yours) the A/C is mounted on the top right and the pulley is under the alternator on the middle left as you are facing the engine.

Thats kinda what I was thinking. The tensioner is right above the water pump pulley in that pic. I just didn't know if chevy added another idler pulley, or just skipped that area completely.

Mine didn't come with A/C (Crate motor from GM) and there is only one tensioner. Since it is Serpentine you only need 1.

Edit*

I think you only need one....I bought my PS pump mount and it came integrated with the A/C mount. There was no additional tensioner (or place for one) that I could see.

You can get a idler pulley for that spot instead. It is what I did. Let me see if I can get a part# for you.

Try and find a 95 S-10 or somethign that came with a 4.3 and look under the hood for a belt diagram.. GM was good for putting a sticker under the hood with a picture of the belt routing for A/C and non A/C....

The idler pulley is about $40 from your local GM dealer. Just ask for it for a non-A/C truck. Bolts on with the two opposing compressor bolts, the 3rd is not used.

Hey nate

You need idler pulley #10118713 lists for $42.82, or if you know your gm parts guy you can get it for $32.12 wholesale.
And you'll need the belt #10230729 lists for $41.39 or $28.97 wholesale.

Does the non-ac (idler pulley) use a different belt than the ac setup?

Yes it does, the non ac idler pulley is different from the ac idler pulley.
