Saginaw box won't take both seals WTF?
I have a reman 1986 C10 steering box from Lares Corp.
It pissed fluid right out of the box. Like, badly. I order a seal kit for it, National PSK-1. OK, two seals two washers. I read up on it a little and cool, looks easy. Removing the dust boot, snap ring, washer & seal - and only one washer & one seal comes out of the box before I'm looking at needle bearings. The snap ring is about 3/8" up from the bottom of the pitman housing. Can't fit both seals in there and be anywhere near the snap ring groove. The single seal I pulled out is listed as the "inner" seal for a PSK1 kit that goes into a Saginaw box. The PSK1 kit's washers won't fit over the sector shaft, either. Anyone have any earthly clue WTF is going on here? Box part numbers & seal kit numbers both go to the same application, I'm pretty sure I've got the right stuff - but the snap ring groove only allows a single seal (and the box leaked like a sieve) Is this just a totally fucked-up rebuild or what? ![]() |

I had one that leaked horribly. After enough bleeding it shit parts down the shaft. Turns out, there was never a groove for the clip in the case.
It will probably be much less frustrating to trade it off at Napa.
