while were on the subject, who's gonna make the FEB 6-8 Off Road Connection run? I'm planning on going but can't get much commitment from the other guys I wheel w/ to make the haul. I'm hoping they'll be a decent turnout....

Bobby- looks like a decent place to wheel. Any suggestions for us planning on heading there in March?

You must really be confident in your Jeep now, since you took off the winch.

Yep... both of em - many times. In my opinion Gardendale is much better wheeling. The only reason I ever go to Tellico is to mix things up a little bit as well as get away from civilization. Gardendale is just 7 miles north of Birmingham, AL so there are actually people there. In Tellico there are only back woods rednecks.

Yup. Mainly because I live less than 3 miles from most of the trails in G'dale/Mt. Olive. There's a good variety of obstacles in G'dale to keep all levels of rig build-up happy. The biggest plus to me though is there's a lot less traffic in G'dale than you'll find in Tellico, unless you come during an event weekend.

Done both also. I like G'dale, and the people there are very nice too. We haven't been to Grey Rock, since they have done all of the new stuff, but I'll bet it is pretty awesome. I also remember some of the spots around Mt. Olive were pretty cool to play in, but is being closed down????
Tellico is fun too, but about 2 hours closer for me.

Hey Bob, did you make Andrew the firewood bitch?
He likes that when you're mean to him. But since he towed your stuff up there, you had to be nice?
When is he finishing his POS ??

Excellent Job! Great Rig.

I noticed the winch rope you are using. What size for that rig are you running and what is the weight of the rig?

Is gardendale on private land or public? Open to anyone, fees? Camping? directions?

I am always looking for new places to ride.

Cool pics and thanks for any info you can throw my way.

I was with the ride that Bobby was on. There are more pics of Bobby and his freinds at G'dale at http://www.patooyee.com/ Look under the Last Stand.

We were not riding at Gray Rock. This is on some land close to there. Gray rock is an ORV park and you need to ride with a group. http://www.grayrockorv.com/ There are other trails like the ones we rode on, but you need someone familiar with the area to show you around. The best place to get this help is http://caos4x4.com/

I'll be there in Feb. Gray rock is privetly owned by Tony Cousin. Great guy. If you get enough people together you can rent the land for 4 days (includes a weekend). Otherwise, gray rock and COAS (club in b-ham) try to put on rides once a month. Alot of the locals gather once a month and clear more trails... the place is already huge, and just getting bigger. My opinion, give it a year or two and gray rock will be the new tellico; everyone will go.

The trails are shorter, some are tougher, and their are many more than tellico. You dont have to drive far to get to trail heads. Four wheelers ARE NOT ALLOWED!!! best part. If you pull up to a trail and someone is broke, easy to turn around. You are 10 miles from downtown b-ham, and you will never know it.

Also, last event held in gray rock by COAS, over 350 vehicles attended. I believe it was last Oct

Its my favorite over monteagle and tellico, and its close to me.

Along with Dan Dibble, there should be a few more of us from the Memphis area at Grayrock for that weekend in Feb.

That is true. He's worried about law suits, and it does cost that much a weekend.

AFAIK most of the larger privately-owned ORV parks prohibit night runs: Liability is their chief concern, and you're a lot more likely to get busted up at night (which is part of what makes night rides fun).
