You gotta be kidding me

Let me preface this by saying I've got a lot of respect for S&N fab and have cruised their website quite often checking out their sick rides for ideas of my own. But, today I ran across this.

http://www.sn-fab.com/images/retail/ujoint.html

I mean comon, $50 bucks for what looks to be a Auto Zone special u-joint with sleeves installed in it? Where's the logic to that being any stronger at all, am I missing something here.

Why not just sell the sleeve

then I can run down to AutoZone and buy my own $13 Brute Force U-joint.

$50 is quite a cheap price for "magic u-joints".

Yeah... I guess they're preying on the casual wheeler that wants an "upgrade". Well, that's capitaplism.

Those are pretty old. And before all the new super ujoints that we have now, they were a viable option. Don't diss it.

Well i guess it is their deal but i probably would just spend a little more and get bobby longs. I agree with Forestcam that they should just sell the sleave for a couple bucks and then u can go get your own cheap u-joint but i guess it wouldnt be worth the time and energy to sell them for that cheap.

Not to stir the pot, but people who have been registered since July '03 need to shut their stupid mouths. Tom started making those joints before OX joints, or Bobby's cryo-treated deals, back when your options were 297x's or $$$ CTMs.

Know your history before you open your piehole.

Actually, I think Tom had them before the CTM's came out. Maybe the same time....

Regardless, they worked when there were no alternatives. I don't think any of the SN Boys still run them. They're all running 60's now

Maybe he needs the 50 bucks so they can afford a spell checker?

Tom LeBlanc (aka Captain America) is now making what he likes to call "magic u-joints" for Dana 44 axles. Basically the needle bearrings are removed and a sleeve is put in their place. The benefits of this are that you won't have needles to wear out, and when you weld the caps in (which you need to), there is no risk of damaging anything. Tom is not guarranteeing that you won't break a u-joint ever again, but this a lot stronger than a stock joint, and Tom has now been running these for a year, and has broken off two shafts, but hasn't hurt one joint yet. For $50.00 per joint, you get a new u-joint with sleeves in it. All that is required is that you install them in your shafts, and weld them up.

I don't really have a dog in this fight but those look like cheap ass Brute Force joints. why not use Spicers to have a stronger base to start with?

The reason you cant sell just the bushings is that every u-joint is different from brand to brand. I guess you could sell a specific bushing for each type of joint, but thats prolly not practical. And if you did, some dildo would be trying to put "A" bushing in "B" u-joint, then giving you a bad rep when it failed.

i think the site needs to be updated... tom isn't making these anymore because he no longer has the tooling to do so, and at the time he origionally made these, the USA made brute force, and the spicer 297 were the only 2 options out there. the 760 came later. the CTM came later, the OX came later...

yea they were $50, but you had a CTM as the other option...

now you've got CTM $185, OX (can u actually get these?) and Bobby's treated sleeved joints $70?.

that said i am still running bobby's first set of 60 joints without issue...

There are intresting and diverse comments in this thread. Like Lil' rich said give them a call. I'm sure Jason, Trevor, or Tom would be more than happy to answer your questions. Passing opinion on something with little to no knowledge of its past history is just not a smart idea in my eyes, Get the facts and make an informed decision.
