26x15.5, same one Jesse used on his. It seemed ok driving around the neighborhood, so we'll see when it gets flogged on.

Catch cans plumbed, radiator hoop tied in, hood mounted, skins painted, almost ready for a shakedown run. Seems a little sluggish off the line compared to my L67 car, but not sure if it's tune related or just needs a some upgrades.

Shakedown run was a disaster. Ripped a new 3/4 x 3/4 rear steer heim in half, transmission lost reverse and the fan rubbed a hole in the radiator. Got it torn apart, did a lot of grinding on the steering arms and almost had a new trans, but all 3 at the junkyard were the early 4l80 with the wrong tailshaft.

Three steps forward two steps back. Great looking rig.

The pace you work you will have it back together this week. Good seeing you out there brother, buggy looks good!

Yer boys face is priceless!

Buggy looks awesome! Sucks to hear about the troubles, but I bet you have it fixed up shortly. On the engine being sluggish I would take it and have it dyno tuned! It made a world of a difference in my buggy.

(Full disclosure I am pulling my engine because I blew it up. You may not want to listen to me!)

I can see the problem with the transmission! its in about 1,000 pieces
lol

I've had a few questions about my fix, so I figured I'd post a couple pics to help someone. Having just ripped a 3/4 heim in half I figured I would share what I learned this weekend. Trail Gear 3.5 9" housing using 05+ Superduty Cs and outers with stock Spicer 1550 shafts and a PSC 2.5x10 ram.

I ground the back side stops flush with the knuckle until I just had daylight between the caliper and shock. If you inboard the shock more, you could probably grind some more.

I ground about 1/2" off the lower steering arm of the JHF kit until there was barely daylight at full lock.

I guess you could define the forward clutches as "welded" together...

Does your cooling system have a expansion tank and overflow?

Are you not worried about too much steering angle now? I mean, those shafts are going to have a ton of stress at full lock from what it looks like. Did you measure the degree of steering you are getting?

Do you have the correct Long fitting for the trans cooler? That almost looks like it was starved for oil.

It should look something like this one.

Haven't measured yet, but I'm planning to limit them ram a good 3/4" until I save up for better shafts. Rumor is Fusion 4x4 has 1550 chromos coming out this summer.

Yes, they're just to the left and bottom in the pic of the transmission torn apart pic.

IS that a 10 spline sm465 adapter???

pennsylvaniaboy 04-04-2019 08:05 AM

Also, what cause the heim failure on the steering?

The guy I bought the Atlas from said it's a 27 spline input for the Atlas.

Possibly casting flaw mixed with more ram than available travel, I don't really know to be honest. I clearnced the stops and steering arms so nothing binds anymore but haven't driven it since to really check.
