Dak attack: my long awaited build.
Since I’m getting closer to the end of the build I figured I’d start the thread. Haven’t posted a thread before so bear with me.
My first truck, bought when I was 16. 2002 Dakota sport 4x4 standard cab. Drove it for years, trans was never great in it and eventually began to give up the ghost. Bought another parts truck and swapped it to a ax15 np231D. Began collecting parts for it almost 5 years ago. Hence the long wait, axles first, builder parts, coil overs Yada yada. Spent years collecting these parts and the knowledge and tools to pull it off!
Funny how things evolve. I initially thought I would leaf spring the front and keep it simple, then wanted linked front, then linked rear, then I just threw it all out and built it the way I wanted after spending countless hours on here studying thread after thread.
I have never learned more about a subject with the exception of my career than this hobby from primarily this site! Cheers to all the builders and threads that gave me the inspiration and tips to get this far.
I’ll take it from the top, started in summer of 2017. Missing some pics from back then but I’ll put in as many as possible.
Stock, monster flex!
Axles when I brought them home. 78 snow fighter front. Mid 80s? 14 bolt. Filled with 5.38s lock rite up front, welded rear( gonna change that). bronze king pin bushings and plated knuckles, I got a really good deal on them.
Bye, bye front half. No turning back now. The way these trucks frames bow out makes it tuff to fit 40s and a lot of up travel, not to mention this truck was rack and pinion so no steering box mount.
Building the front new front half
