D30 Powertrax no-slip Defects.

Lurked around here for a bit, always a good source of information hidden in some useless banter

06 TJ
d30/d44 3.73 gearing
6spd manual
31in patagonias

Installed the rear no-slip first, and have had no issues with it for the past few months.

1: A week later I installed the front no-slip in the d30.
Blew up 20 miles later, on road only. Drove from a friends house to mine.

2: Warrantied it out, was paranoid installing it. I literally put it in/out at least 3 times to make sure everything was lined up correctly and done right.
drove ~1500 miles, a day of light trails(2wd mostly) and a day of fun in the mud. Someone pointed out that I was 3wd. I popped the cover to check for issues. The springs were collapsed just enough to not keep both sides engaged all the time. Annoying, but not a huge issue. Then I noticed it was cracked around the pins.

3: Little pissed, but warrantied it out again. New locker arrives, already split around the pins. Brand new, never been installed.

First one I chocked up to being user error or defective. 2nd one was definitely a defect. 3rd one, someone wasn't doing their job.

So have you talked to someone in engineering at Powertrax? You shouldn't be having those kinds of failures, especially with the way your Jeep is set up and how you have been using it. It sounds like they may have had a bad run or two of the casings that need to be recalled.

I have installed a Lock Right into a LJ with 35s that wheels hard trails (but doesn't get beat on) with no issues. I also installed an Aussie or Spartan (I don't remember which) into an XJ that had the tar beaten out of it on 33s and later 36s, and he never had a problem with the lunch box locker. So, I don't have personal experience with the Powertrax unit, but they are all more or less the same and should be able to stand up to some abuse.

For what it's worth, the Aussie and Lokka brand lunch boxes have been flawless for me. By that I mean I typically break a cross pin or carrier before I lose the pins or physically break the locker.

I got a corporate spiel after I called on the first one. I haven't had a chance to call about the 2nd, or the one broken in the box yet.

You might send them an email with the pictures you posted here. I have typically had better luck discussing product defects via email rather than on the phone with customer service.

If they don't believe it is a defect, I would try and get a refund and buy a different brand.
