Just bought 3 chevy dana 60’s. Need dana 80 to be similar bolt pattern.

Hi guys. Just bought 3 chevy dana 60s and need to buy a dana 80 for a 4x4 swap im getting started on here for a isuzu npr.

So the dana 60’s i have are a 8 lug chevy pattern. Would that be what is called a 8x6.5? There king pin danas from the older chevy dually trucks.

The rear axle i plan to use in this swap in conjunction with the dana 60 will probably be a dana 80. This isuzu npr will still be a servicable welding flat bed/ welding rig for my welding shop i run. So basically im more worried about reliability and strength. No hard core wheeling.

So should i try to convert a dana 80 to the dana 60 chevy bolt pattern?

The dana 80 i was looking at buying is out of a ford f-450 and it has disk brakes and 10 lug bolt pattern.

The same yard has a dana 80 from a dodge with the chevy 8 lug bolt pattern and it seems initially that swaping this axle would be the no brainer, but its srw. Does that make any difference?
It also has drums which i dont like, but can live with it if i have to.

Is there a way to convert the dana 60 to a fod 10 lug bolt pattern?


Basically i just need some rear axle recommendations and some guidance on putting a good rear axle in the rear of this project. This truck will prob be about 9,500 majority of the time with possibly 11-12k on occasion.

sell what you got an go find a matching set of 2005+ ford superduty 450 or 550 axles

modern axles with widely available parts, good brakes, matching lug pattern, coil sprung front suspension

Well i need passenger side drop on the pumpkin. And the 05 plus dana 110 (i think thats what those newer rear axles are called) dont have round axle tubes, so modifying their length would be a bitch (right?)

I did consider the 05 plus superduty front axles (f450/f550) because they sound stronger than the regular dana 60’s. But not much documentation on swaping the side the diferential is on so i kinda dont want to waist money and time on un knowns...

Whats the gvar of the aam 11.5?

Swapping sides of the differential is easy with a cut and sleeve.

11.5 is rated at just over 10,000 pounds. Dana 80s were rated up to 17,500 depending on model.

Aisin. The fab work is no problem, i just dont have any experience tearing into axles. So would i run into any problems cut and sleeving a dana super 60 from a 05 plus ford?

The cut and sleeve or press out the tube and press in again i got. I can cut/torch all the bull shit off the super 60 im just worried about swaping the internal axle shafts or any related mechanical problems of parts not matching up or ... idk.

So i wont have a problem provided i own and run a full stocked fab shop?

This junk yard i know has what im pretty sure is a 05 plus dana super 60 along with the dana 80 10 lug i was talking about. So with a cut and sleeve i can then have both axles be 10 lug...

If you have a fully stocked fab shop and canít swap axle shafts from side to side you might wanna look into getting a Jeep. You are probably over your head.

A Dana 80 with a 17,500 GAWR is going to come out of a medium duty truck and not have an 8x6.5" bolt pattern. A 10,000Lb GAWR is already plenty when the OP says his GVWR is only going to be 11-12K max. Frankly that is dually 1 ton territory, so really, any dually rear axle should work for him.

84 bronco. Thankks for joining. Frankly i dont give a crap what i use. Im not a big gear head and i did some axle reasearch a few months ago and it seemed like dana 80 was the way to go. I jusy want whats the easiest swap, and fills the needs posted above.

What year range and type of vehicle u suggest getting a aam 11.5 out of?
Id like disk brakes if i can get them.

Ive been wondering too what difference 10 lug ford vs 8x6.5 on these axles i have is?

What is better or stronger? 10 lug stronger?
Cheap rims and 10” tires would be great for me!!!
Forgot to mention that. I want 16” rims. Idk if ford 10 lug only came in larger sizes or not.

So if i look for a aam 11.5 were they all dually? I want drw still. Just need to onow what to look for guys!

Well been trying to do a lot of reasearch on these aam 11.5 axles and google searches arent bringing much up.

Trying to figure out what model and year trucks they came out of and if i should be looking for one from a gm or a dodge.

My hope id i can get 4.10 for both front and rear axles, but if i decide to re gear lower or higher than will i be able to get gears in the same ratios for both the dana 60 and aam 11.5? Gonna try to look that up now.

Either you are bullshitting about doing any research at all on anything you have posted in this thread or you are really dumb. It seems weird that someone who claims to have a full fab shop is so lost and clueless.
