Old NP ring gear new planetary

Hey guys,

I had a whine in my doubler setup and I was told I put an old style ring gear in and probably a new style planetary. I have pics of the ring gear I used and the planetary I DIDNT use, meaning the other style I put in.

A) do I need to swap it out? Will it blow up?
B) I plan to drive it 700 miles Wednesday.
C) Does it get quieter as they wear in.

Everything i read when researching what planetary to use said that using any of the old stuff with the new parts would eventually grind itself to pieces.

Yup. Gears are only hardened for a few thou at the surface. Once you get through that all hell breaks loose.

I pulled the t case and swapped the new style planetary for the old style.

I probably put 5 miles on the setup. Do you think it was enough to grind down the hardened teeth surface of the ring gear? There was sparkles in the fluid.

Much quieter!!!

I guess I would have to pull it after I put miles on it with the correct planetary setup now.

I had 5 miles on the improper setup. Hopefully it didnít do damage to the ring gear, when I had it out it didnít look bad but I didnít look too close. Wish I had pics of it

So there's a break in years.
94 and down
95 and up
Do you know what years you used?

I had a 94 down ring gear and a 95 up planetary. I took the 95 up planetary out and put a 94 down in it

Sounds like you need another donor case. That's a bummer. Hope you get it sorted.
