9 inch bearing renew

I had a weeping seal on my ford 9" axle.

This is not the first time I have replaced a seal. however, my shop press is still loaded out so I did it shade tree fashion.

Installing the seal. bearing race and retention collar the best I coul

I used a MAP gas torch to heat the collar before I used a scrap piece of tubing to drive the hole lot against the flange. I heated the collar untill spit bounced off of it.

By heating the collar, was it's strength compromised. if it was will it fail?

There should be no problem. Heating bearing retaining collars is common.

There was one brand (I won't mention, since they fixed the problem) that used a different material that when heated, expanded and stayed. It was too tight to press cold, but when heated, it dropped on - then fell right off when cool.

I'm confident you are fine.

Way too go! I didn't think I fawked it up. It was a Timken set.

The cool part was I did the same with the race in the axle tube, Heated and used the claw end of my framing hammer. Came out with little effort. Installing the new race was even easier 'cause it was cold and the axle was heated. sliped in like an elephant twat.

Thanks
