links and airbags are done!!!

I finally had a free weekend and used it to tear down my dakota. I put a new dana 44 from a 78 f-250 w bronco 5 lug brakes and outers. The big difference this time is I used 11 inch travel semi truck reversing sleeve air bags. It is really soft and I need to get my mx6-r shocks on there soon. It is a double Y link radius arm type setup and I can disconnect my upper arms to allow flex. but here are a few pics I took this mournin to show off.

What exactly is going on here?

Apparently caster and pinion angle are adjustable by simply drilling a new hole...

No, I set the pinion angle and castor before drilling the holes. I set the castor to 4 degrees when its at ride height(bags at about 9 inches). Then I drilled 2 1/2 inch holes thru the upper arms and put bolts thru the pass side and will have pins on the drivers.

I do have pics of my buildup every step of the way, but they are so dark, it wasnt worth puttin on here. Thats why I will take some more tonite so you guys can see what happens at the axle.

And as for the ball joints, some of the threads got flattened out so I couldnt get the nuts back on so I need to replace em.

You should've picked photography!

Why are you using square tubing? With a custom suspension radius arms would not be my first choice...should've ran a three link w/ panhard.

ya, i was waitin for those replies, took you guys a little while.

Please keep in mind that there are upper arms on both sides, but I will only disconnect one at any time.

I went for square becasue the flat sides will keep it from bending. it is more rigid that round tubing the same sizes.

Meaning you will disconnect one of the upper arms on one side only, correct? And, you're running a panhard bar, correct?

EDIT: n/m, answered above.

Ive seen a few rigs with the Y link on one side and just a single link on the other. I build the double Y link so I can lock up both uppers and it will act as a sway bar with the only "give" coming from the bushings at the axle.

When he disconnects the passenger side only (RIGHT?!?!) it'll act like a wristed radius arm on a Ford.

LOL

If there isn't a panhard, then he'll be discussing his place here with God sooner than later.

I thought that was essentially what he was talking about, but I hate to assume things, especially here lately.

Looks like the same bags I'm using in the rear on my rig. What are you using to limit the bags?

At 9 inches, I have almost 7 more inches of extension and it will compress about 4. It has 11 inches of travel from 4.9 to 15.8 inches.

I have large summit machine flex joints welded to 1.25 all thread. that is 2x2 .250 wall square tube. I have poly bushings at the axle and am using BTF traction link brackets to hold on. I have 3/4x3/4 rod ends w 5/8 hi-misalignment spacers on the drag link and will be changing to 5/8x3/4 rod ends on the track bar.
