5.3 wont keep fuel pressure and runs crappy??

Alright were using a e2000 fuel pump and the 5.3 will run good for about 10min and then run like crap. We have tried two diffrent computers and tried two diffrent e2000 pumps. Replaced the crank shaft position censor as well. This thing runs like a champ for a bit, but the motor just starts to spudder and run like crap. Any help would be great thanks Jared....

do you have a gauge on the pressure line? If not how do you know its caused by fuel pressure? If you do know its a pressure problem then you might check the fuel pressure regulator, it may be bypassing at too low a pressure.

It sounds like a component is heating up and then dying - that's always a blast to diagnose.

x2 on getting a gauge on the line.

PS I just spent an hour this afternoon trying to debug an EFI 350 setup... I feel your pain.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on the passenger side fuel rail. You can get one that screws right on it. I had some problems with the pressure regulator. If you kill the motor and the pressure immediatley drops either the regulator is bad or you have an injector leaking.

I was having problems with mine running like crap and it was the O2s.

You should nave no issues at all running that motor with a e2000 pump. Make sure your fuel line routing isnt near the exhaust - you may be vapor locking (boiling the fuel) the system. Where is your fuel filter? make sure its AFTER the pump, not before it.

When the motor starts acting up, try purging the fuel rail to see if there is air coming out...

Good luck

I your engine starts rattling after ten minutes or less, I don't think it is fuel problem.
check your exhaust, unbolt at y pipe or in front of cat. and see if it still runs.
safety, hearing protection required. I had problem with the daughter's cherokee, new the motor was bad, did a swap and didn't chance exhaust. blew that motor
up too. before I figure out what was going on.

O2s.

Edit: 40 psi is way too low, should be at 55psi. Check your fuel line for crimps or obstructions. Replace the pump again.

Good luck

40 psi is too low for sure. Like ohfck said - you need at least 55psi. Check your fuel lines. What kind of filter do you have?

also check the wiring to the pump. a e2000 should have no trouble pushing 60psi+
