Atlas?

How much nose does your Atlas make?

Doing some pre-running style wheeling in Baja a couple of weeks ago I notice that my Atlas transfer-case is loud. Also it gets hot and spits oil out the breather when doing long high speed runs. Iím thinking it has issues.

I've got a 4.3 in an XJ and ya can't even hear it. Driven cross country and back a few times and never had an issue with any oil coming out anywhere ( OK there is a very slight drip at the output when parked). Highway and trail driven over the years with no issues. A call to Advance might be in order.

I'd be interested in some answers on this too. I just installed a new 6.0 Atlas in my '93 Ranger with 4.0L and M5OD 5-speed. I seem to be getting a lot of gear noise going down the road. Noise seems to be consistant with transmission tailshaft speed. Driveshafts do not appear to be a contributing factor.

There are several noise related posts concerning Atlas t-cases here on Pirate. Some folks say they never make a sound. Others say they quiet down with age and still others say AA had problems with one of the production runs and will repair it at no charge.

Mine makes lots of noise around 35 mph and goes away about 50 mph. Only have about 150 miles on it right now. I have installed others in the past without ever hearing any noise.
