Post Bolt strength?

In which use is a, say grade 8 bolt, stronger?
A: Forces in opposite direction along the axis of the bolt (Pulling apart)
B: Forces in opposite directions perpendicular to the bolt (shearing)

Grade 8 bolts are stronger during a pull, and are more brittle on shear, compared to a lower grade that is softer. However, if you use a really low grade bolt it would breakunder a similer shear load. What the scenerio? <IMG SRC="smilies/jeep2.gif" border="0">

Wrong wrong wrong. I'm sick and tired of correcting this misconception...do a search.

To answer the question. ALL bolts are stronger in tension, than in shear. Nominally, shear strength is usualy somewhere about 60" of UTS (ultimate tensile strength)

Sorry - not mad or upset at you, just mad that someone started this myth and sucked so many of us in, for so long (including me at one point)
