FWD-LO, turning radius question.

Im trying to decide whether to run a 205 or 208 in my rig. One one hand, I have the cool factor of twin-sticks and FWD- and RWD-LO. Not to mention being the closest to being indestructible. On the other hand, I have a 2.62 LO ratio.

The thing I want to know is, how much of a difference does FWD-LO make in turning radius with a locked front axle?

Imagine turning 180 degees without the inside rear tire moving. You would want a cutting brake or a good e-brake though.

You can do a front dig, which is a real good thing. Cutting brakes make front digs better, but you can still do it without cutting brakes.

But will cutting brakes actually help if your rear axle is locked? I think I remember a discussion about this in a buildup thread in the Dodge forum. IIRC, they said it didnt do any good at all when locked.

Thing I want to know is if FWD-LO actually makes enough of a difference to make me want to choose the 205 over the 208, sacrificing the possibility of a lower crawl ratio. As far as strength, I dont think Im hardcore enough to destroy a well-maintained 208.

You can still do a cutting turn with the rear axle locked. Dont believe it? Go rent a front wheel drive car, pull the e-brake as hard as you can, crank the wheels to one side and floor it.

edit: Opt for the insurance when you rent the car, it may just come in handy if you do too many cutting turns since it is kinda fun.
