Funny - that was exactly me too.

I'll be 18 months sober tomorrow. After that is uncharted territory; I've gone 18 months sober once prior, but fell off the wagon so to speak. Longer than 18 months is new to me. Still getting used to it...

How are we all doing?

I've drank only once in the last 3 months. Struggling with an opiate addiction. Went to the Oregon coast to detox for a week. I fucking HATE opiates!!!

I have 1 beer in the fridge. I put a date on the bottom of it. If I make it a year, I'll pour it down the sink and continue on.

Lots of 'good' changes in 2015, hopefully 2016 will carry on all that is good.

So you're into BDSM?

Having that beer in your fridge is torture for you whether you know it or not.

Get rid of said beer; NOW.

Advice appreciated!!!

I do okay right now. I still have a whole bottle of Dilaudid in the cupboard too. That though will never go away as long as I live. I'm sure I'll have to kick an opiate habit a few more times in the future.

Ok; flame suit on. Damn this is hard to write...

I started having one drink per day a little over a month ago.

Three times I've had two drinks. I've never had more than that.

Holy chit dude; You got dilaudid ?!!

Dilaudid make morphine feel like water. Seriously.

History of injury(s) I presume? With the utmost respect; I assume you possess Dilaudid legally for past medical issues. Correct?

Two of Dilaudid will put the average white boy to sleep for a whole week ! (Variation of a Richard Pryor joke )

When I worked in the E.R. the only patients that got Dilaudid right off the bat were kidney stone and gallstone chief complaints.

Confronting your demons is an act of courage few people experience.

Knowing they exist and bringing them out in the open is a great step. In military terms; positively identifying a target allows for an airstrike to be conducted in order to persecute said target.

It's up to you to plan your strike mission in order to eliminate said target.

Good luck my friend.

First time I have been sober for more than 2-3 days in around 10+ years.

I have been following this thread since it was started but have never posted in it until now.

I am tired of feeling like shit.

I am tired of being fat.

I am tired of treating my body like shit.

Was doing great most of '15. Slid into shitty habits around Thansgiving. Lasted a month. Pretty disappointed in myself. But, I'm back at it. I know I can do this.

Dude; You'll be fighting your demon until you finally die at 102 years old.

The secret is to keep fighting. They'll be ebb and flows in your life that will tempt you. If you falter, the trick is to know you can get back up and begin anew. Pledging to redouble your commitment to yourself.

Y'all are doing great. Keep up the good work, and if you can't do it for yourself do it for your kids (if you have any)

5 days for me. Y'all keep it up. This is the year I'm going to cut back a lot of my drinking. Gonna try to cut it to limited amounts of whiskey.

Pain-wise; I'm not at your level but I'm on the same boat.

Mine started with a violent MTB accident in '01 breaking my neck.

It continued with a second neck surgery to fuse my whole neck in '11.

Now; I just found out after Christmas my whole fucking lumbar region (L1 through L5) is toast . Yea; More surgery.

The wheels of my cart have been falling off ever since I turned 40, eleven years ago....

I want to address the "Is it possible to cut back" point. I think for some it is possible. I do not in any way want to negate the tremendous efforts of people like Bunk who have had to go cold turkey and stay on the wagon.

I wasn't addicted to alcohol, but I really liked getting drunk, and I really liked partying. 5 years ago I made some really bad mistakes and decided to stop drinking. I didn't have a drop for another 1.5 years. I found out who my friends are. I made a better relationship with my wife and my kids.

I do like the taste of a good IPA. I decided to have one. It didn't lead to another. I got drunk once about two years ago, and I hated it.
I feel that I now have a healthy relationship with alcohol. A six-pack usually lasts me a month. I hang out with whitewater boaters and hockey players (and both groups have people who can flat out put down some beer) and they respect me when I have one and no more. I no longer have a beer with every dinner or whenever I walk into the shop. I can split a beer with my wife and then go hang with the kids.

So...if you aren't truly addicted, just cut WAAAY back. Its good for you. You'll lose weight and feel better. It saves a ton of money. There's nothing wrong with having a sip around the campfire, but it doesn't mean you need to toss the cap and drink until the bottle is empty.

Again, full respect to everyone who has had to quit and stay out of it. If you're a person who can only walk too close to the edge of the cliff, stay away from the damn thing.
