Right on Dude.
The headaches are probably coming from sugar withdrawal. At least thats what I was told.
As mentioned juice helps. Just give your body a chance to adapt.
Anyway, I think it's awesome and I wish you luck my friend.

In about 2-3 months I got to the point where it didn't bother me at all if people around me were drinking. I even got beers out of coolers and handed them out to people that wanted them.

I didn't mind other people drinking around me, I was just fine with that! But psychologically I guess, my first friday without drinks made me grumpy, haha!

Not gonna lie, I miss beer sometimes but I can live happily without it and still hang out with my drinking friends. My wife and I both quit this year and it has improved our marriage and our lives. I can write a book about my episodes of drinking and brushes with death. I wish I had all the money I spent on booze and cigarettes over the years, today it would buy me a nice 5th wheel toyhauler and a Bomber Fab buggy, and with the wife's booze money we'd have a nice vacation cabin. Oh well we had fun and felt like shit instead.

Ok, I'm in.

Gonna try not to drink today. If I make it it'll be the first day in over a year.

Wish me luck.

good luck to everyone in this thread, drinking can be fun but it can also be a nightmare.

I dont drink very often, but I have a few friends that drink a lot more than I would prefer, from when I met them to now I've seen them go from drinking on the weekends to drinking nearly everyday, and I dont mean like they have a few beers , I mean they get shitface drunk nearly every night.

kinda sad but I dont think there is much I can do about it.

What's kind of weird for me is I don't know what day it was when I had my last drink. I was sick for the better part of a week before I came to my senses. All I know that it was sometime in the early/middle part of October.

Also, when I quit, I didn't say anything to anybody. It was a good month before my family noticed.

My dad quit for almost 13 years. He started drinking again close to 2 years ago. He cant do anything without taking a drink. I dont like my dad at all when hes drinking and hes always drinking. I have no point but you dont want to be like my dad.

Try carbonated, you know, fizz water. It's more interesting than tap water without the calories and crap from sodas.
I drank so much fizz water that I started making my own with a C02 tank.

A nice lemon flavored carbonated water strangely has a beer aftertaste to it, IMHO.. If you're kicking the can, try that. I bet it helps.

It's a pretty common theme...

A friend of mine suggested this to me... make a bloody mary minus the vodka/gin. I like a Bloody Mary drink (about the only mixed drink that I do like), so I may do this if I have a craving.

I don't think there's really any substitute for straight whisky though...

Woke up with another headache but other than that feel good. Stayed busy outside today since it stopepd raining. Today is Sunday and it officially marks the first weekend that I can remember in years I didn't get wasted. New years is going to be interesting but I'll have a couple weeks sober at that point so should be good.

Ok, thanks guys; I'm gonna make it.

When I wrote my previous message, I was on the back porch, the sky cleared, the sun shown through, I was lighting a charcoal fire for grilled pizza, and I wanted a beer BAD. So...

I went and got some O'Doul's.

I hope that's not cheating, and they're pretty nasty, but it worked. All the familiar sensations of holding the bottle and taking a swig was enough; halfway through the bottle and I knew I was going to be ok. Sober after dinner for the first time in a looong while.

Cheers all,

Curtis

Smarties. Those little round packs of candy are your friend. You were consuming about 10 candy bars a night worth of sugar and you have suddenly stopped so your gonna have massive headaches if you don't substitute that intake for a little while. Those worked for me.

There are a few others out there, but I don't think any of them really taste very good, haha!

Cashed in my yearly "get drunk" card at the company Christmas party last night. Had a great time and shut myself off as soon as I hit the good and buzzed mark. The old drunk level was a barely coherent word slurring stupor, now the new personal drunk level is a decent buzz. As soon as I hit that level I'll switch over to water, that way I know I won't go into drunk asshole mode. Had my DD stop at the store on the way home to grab a big ass water and bottle of coke, funny that in years past I would stop to grab more beer and cigs on the way home after a party. The light hangover today was a great reminder of why I quit and will keep me sober for another year.

It's funny how people mentioned candy, after booze that became my new vice. Airheads, runts, gummy worms/bears, twizzlers, etc.... I always find myself grabbing a bag of something when I go shopping. I get weird cravings that only a handful of shitty fruit flavored candy can fulfill.

Dragrcr, if you're still drinking like a dish with all the shit that is happening in your life, you're going to find out that booze is not the coping mechanism you think it is.
