Polaris Slingshot audio build

Had a client come in with a new Slingshot. When it leaves the shop it's getting sent off for a supercharger. Will be sitting on about 440hp after.

Anyway, I decided to put a DD Audio SW2508 in the passenger side storage compartment. Also ordered some aftermarket speaker pods for the front and modified them to work with some Hertz SPL Show SV 165.1 mids and ST 25 compression drivers.

Going to be loud.

More pics.

Made a trim ring for the sub that mimics the trim around the push to start button.

Monday I'll bond the inner and outer panels together, bond the trim ring to them, then texture the piece.

Man every time I see one of your builds, I think back on when if you had a pair of 6x9 coaxial speakers and Sparko-matic equalizer booster you thought you had some tunes.

I took a red one, painted it matte-black and did a batman theme on it for a customer. Kinda cool.

These days, with the way HVAC and other vehicle functions are integrated into the head unit, things are shifting from replacing the head unit to integration.

In five years things will be MUCH different. A lot more integration and fewer (less than even now) head unit installs.

A lot of work into this cover panel. Seven pieces of PVC sheet.

Snaps onto the sub enclosure baffle with grille guides and is a continuation of the port.

Textured now.

I think those things are cool as hell. I was really shocked at how comfortable they are to sit in. I thought it wouldn't be comfy at all given all of the weather proof materials.

That was the intent. When I found out I was building one there was only one way to do it.

It's SEM Texture Coat. Sprays on. Takes a little practice, but it's worth the end result.

A few pics. The last pic is the push to start button and where I pulled the idea for the subwoofer trim ring.

Owner said we far exceeded his expectations.

Video 1

Video 2. Be sure to click on HD.

You can feel the bass standing around the vehicle. 1,000W on that 8.

This stuff is pretty awesome. I dig watch good fabrication, but your stuff is next level kind of stuff. Better than stock and all that. It looks not only like it came from the factory, but it looks like it was brought over from the higher end luxury production line. Nice detail. Keep posting this stuff up, I think I can say we all dig your threads and pics.

Wish you were in Kalifornistan.

Thanks, man. The Slingshot model with the radio was about $5k more from the dealer. For ~$7k with us he got much more than the factory would ever provide.

This Slingshot is head to Kalifornistan soon. The thing is getting a supercharger, new rear swingarm and tire, new front suspension arms, then heading to film an episode of Jay Leno's Garage.

The owner is also involved in a new show that will be on Discovery Channel called Toy Makers(z?). They've got a one year contract so, with any luck, some work through them will come my way.

That would be cool to get the shop on a show and drive some new business.

I can't imagine how that thing will be able to maintain traction on a single rear drive tire with the HP being cranked up. I have to imagine that it can barely maintain traction with it being as light as it is already. Adding a bunch of horsepower is going to make that thing completely ridiculous...in a good way of course.
