Anyone in/around Ely, NV?

What do the mountain tops look like out there now? Snow? Look like a stock 4x4 pickup could get up a dirt road to the mountain tops?

If I end up out there, should I stay in town or drive somewhere else? I do t think there is anything else close though.

I don't live there but I don't think they have much snow if any at all. The storm that just went through the Sierras dropped a couple feet in Elko but I don't think it went as far south as Ely. Could be wrong though.

As far as where to stay, if you don't plan on staying in town where else you gonna go? Ely is in the middle of nowhere.

I don't think I've ever been to Ely. I have spent a few weeks in Eureka, NV and wasn't sure if I was better staying in Ely or heading back to Eureka.

There was a dusting a few days ago about 8,000 ft and up. A little more today. I can't see all the way down there as I'm north of that range about 70 miles

Cancel the trip.
Your coordinator should know better. We always seek to hit all mountain sites by Halloween. Once November comes around, there is no sense in risking hours of travel to be turned around due to snow.
If it's a priority site, they should hook you up with a snowcat or helicopter or skis if doable.

If you don't have a coordinator and it's on you to guess if there's snow or ask on pirate, I would call the local hotel and ask the employee at the desk for 1st hand current info. That's always been a good way to do it.

If you decide to go anyway, good luck and take note if/where you happen to lose service in case you get stuck and need help.

I used to live in Eureka, Ely was a metropolis compared to Eureka. It's a solid hour drive from Ely to Eureka. No clue on current snow levels. The Chinese restaurant actually wasn't too bad in Ely.

I was freezing my balls of in the snow at Alpine Meadows yesterday.companies don't care, they just want it done. They want to start/finish as many projects by the end of the year,so they can all get their big fat bonuses.

I get that, Deer Tick. I do.
But usually the plans have to prioritize the mountain sites before winter.
Some of these locations are a 3 hour trip on dirt up a mountain...in good weather.
No way someone will make it. They'd have to park and snowshoe the whole way and camp at the site. Better hope it's a shelter site or you got a BTS tent.

Speaking of which...I have an old BTS tent I no longer use. I think it was about $500 back when I got it, no clue how much it's worth now. You mount it to the cabinet doors open and make use of the climate control unit to keep yourself warm as you can mess with the radios all night if you want.

I've been in the industry since the late '90s. It will never change.
