Need Cell Data Plan Help

I've got a hole in my data plan somewhere that is bleeding my plan dry and I can't find it.

For the past 2 yrs or so we (me, wife, 2 daughters) have all had iPhone 4s's on a 10g shared plan. We always ran close but never really had a problem going over.

In August we "upgraded" to 3 iPhone 5s's and 1 iPhone 6 on a 12g plan. We immediately started running over to the tune of 15-16g. I've made settings changes in all of the phones but we're still running higher than normal.

Changes-
Wifi assist turned off
LTE turned off
App Store auto downloads turned off
Contact and picture sharing, etc turned off

We still surf the net and Facebook during the day but no YouTube or streaming music apps unless on wifi.

Is there anything else that could be a drain that I've missed? I'm not trying to lock down the phones just rein in the usage to where we used to be and I can't find what's different from the old phones.

Check the phones themselves. Most phones will allow you to see what apps are using how much data. Also, look at setting notifications for data usage on the devices.

This, and depending on the carrier, they might also be able to see where the data is going.

I just went through this with a work phone. Turns out that just because you click the only update while on wifi button, doesn't mean it wont still update using cell data.

On the iPhone look under settings- cellular, scroll down to the bottom and turn off wifi assist.

Never mind, I didn't read the whole post.

Ok I checked mine but it's not app specific, just total usage.

Scroll down, fucker. Safari etc. should be listed below that.

Maps sucks up most of my data.

There isn't anything useful (app specific) below my "use cellular data for" list.

Get on Google and do some searching on limiting data usage. My wife's Iphone 6 was using a few gigs a day when she first got it, because it does all kinds of updates, reporting, etc in the background. I couldn't find it by checking the normal places, so I turned to Google. You'd be surprised at how much shit those phones send out, and it gets worse with every update.

This is my phone, no issues with this "cell data" you speak of and the battery lasts a week.

Thats cute...some of us need a digital connection to conduct business on a day to day basis because the job demands it, and taking cell and computing advice from a guy whose username is his email address is not high on our list either.

Yeah, they just aren't in the pic.

Safari = 4.9gb
Maps = 5.1 mb

Location services is turned off unless I need the map in which case I turn it on then back off when done.

The iphoneincanada link has some good stuff but I've already turned that stuff off. Also, the iPhone 6 (wife's phone) has the lowest usage of all the phones. She typically runs less than 1 gb per month.

Well YT in your images is using 4.4gb, add that to 4.9gb Safari is using and you have 9.3gb which is almost your data plan completely...shared means that 10gb is spread across all the phones not per phone.

Yea, working with your hands sucks.
90% of the smartphone usage I see is people dicking around on the internet, facebook, texting, youtubes, angrybirds, etc.
As a whole, the people I see with smartphones get significantly less work done in a day than those without.

pirate has found your issue.

Looks like your with the big red my fellow comrade.

Your carrier can only see how much data is being used and when .

Instagram
Snapchat
Facebook
Youtube

I have noticed these are eating data up with young kids it seems.

Yeah, I understand how the shared plan works.

As far as the totals per app shown, isn't that a running total since the last reset? (08/18/15)

Nah working with your hands is a dying art and I give anyone who does a high degree of respect for it. I agree the distraction of phones and devices during the workday eats into my daily schedule as much as it helps it along, tough to stay balanced....back to work for me

I don't think so. I am pretty sure it is per device totals shown, that is how my Droids on Tmo show it at least.

He said he does that when he is connected to the internet.

Possibly close background apps? I leave location services on because if I lose my phone or it's stolen I want to be able to find it using Find my iPhone. Find my iPhone has only used 6.6MB on my phone. I don't think turning off LTE is changing your data at all it's just limiting you to slower data.

Did you check the 2 daughters phones and compare them to yours? You may not be using the datas but others might.
