Gary has been a regular runner for a while now, he just doesn't get a lot of traction because he doesn't seem to have one of those bold personalities that stands out from the crowd.

I'm aware. I've voted Johnson twice.

It's not that he's not got personality, but when you're excluded from every debate it's pretty hard to get your message out.

and that's the problem with having the elections process run by two parties.

Like I said in the other thread, if neither of my two candidates running as R get the nod, my vote will go his way.

With the Supreme Court appointments that will most likely be up for grab during the next 8 years I can't with good conscience vote for someone that doesn't stand a chance, the stakes are just too high... that being said, Utah always goes heavy red so I'll vote for Johnson since it won't detract from the Republican chances here.

I voted for Johnson for Governor twice, he did good for the state. Then he just disappeared and that is his problem now he only shows up just before an election, so nobody knows him, they have no idea what he has done or will do.

So the 3rd party can't raise funds and buy advertising space? There is a reason no one hears his message....SPEAK LOUDER!

I've donated, have you?

It's kind of hard when you dn't get the federal dollars the major parties get, or have billionaires running super pacs because they need you in their pocket.

If you've not noticed our politics is run by corporate entities these days, and when you tell those entities that you're going to end the system that makes them rich, they don't support you.

Gov. Gary Johnson - STATEMENT BY GOVERNOR GARY JOHNSON IN RESPONSE TO THE PRESIDENT’S STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

Quote:
STATEMENT BY GOVERNOR GARY JOHNSON IN RESPONSE TO THE PRESIDENT’S STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS
January 12, 2016, Santa Fe, NM – Former New Mexico Governor and presidential candidate Gary Johnson released the following statement following President Obama’s State of the Union Address:

“I applaud the President’s optimism. I too am an optimist. But I have a real problem with basing that optimism on what government has done over the past 7 years and what President Obama wants it to do in the future.

He says that anyone who says the economy is in decline is peddling fiction. We can quibble over economists’ numbers, but it doesn’t take an economist to know that continuing to add to the national debt is bankrupting us – and that debt has doubled on his watch, aided and abetted by Congress.

He talks about medical advances, after having done everything in his power to kill medical innovation with new taxes and layers of bureaucracy. His signature promise of better care and lower cost simply isn’t happening.

He speaks of civil rights and those who have resisted expanding them. This from a President whose Administration continues at every turn to dismantle the 4th Amendment, spy on American citizens and plant the government in every aspect of society.

To be fair, there have been steps in the right direction. Meaningful criminal justice reform is taking hold across the nation. More and more governments at all levels are finally seeing the failure of the War on Drugs. But far too many Americans are still being victimized by militarized police and heavy-handed laws.

My assessment of the State of the Union is quite different than President Obama’s, and much simpler. I see a national debt that will hit $20 trillion by the time he leaves office. I see a government that was too big and too overreaching when he took office, and has gotten more so under his watch. And I challenge anyone to show that we are today safer after years of war, failed nation-building abroad and foreign policy chaos.

I’m optimistic, but not because of anything the government is going to do for us. I’m optimistic because it is clear America is tired of too much government and too little freedom, and appears poised to demand change – a different kind of change than we have gotten over the past 7 years.”

This is sooo true. I really just now stumbled upon him again after losing track of him years ago:
From Fox News Announcement:
Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson announces 2016 presidential bid | Fox News
Quote:
Pro-pot politician Gary Johnson announced Wednesday he will seek the Libertarian Partys 2016 presidential nomination.

<snip>

The self-made millionaire and former Cannabis Sativa, Inc. CEO had dropped a steady stream of hints on social media the past few weeks about his latest political aspirations.

Johnson also ran for president in 2012, initially as a Republican but later as the Libertarian Party nominee. In that race, he received 3.5 percent of the vote in New Mexico but failed to gain traction nationally.

On Monday, Cannabis Sativa Inc., the legal marijuana products company that Johnson ran, announced he had resigned as CEO to pursue political opportunities.

<snip>
Johnson will face stiff competition from John McAfee, a 70-year-old cybersecurity pioneer, also seeking the Libertarian Party nomination. In all, there are two-dozen candidates vying for the partys nomination.
Sumptin' tells me he ain't gettin' the Evangelical vote. Isn't John McAfee the dude that went all "Charlie Sheen" on some Caribbean island?

That's called "leadership". Gotta have passion to get traction.

I would like to see at least one debate that included the Libertarians, following the primaries.

IMHO, before that can happen, Rand Paul (or someone of his stature) will need to cross over to the party.

I think Obama did during his first campaign.

I did as well and for the most part thought he did a good job...especially in light of the narcissistic asshole that was Richardson and the beer bottle chucker.

I did not like that Johnson wanted to tap into the permanent fund for day to day government operations though.
