Backup Camera / Dashcam combo Options

Recently I was side-swiped in my tow rig, causing quite a bit of damage to the passenger side of my truck. Long story short, the insurance company refuses to pay due to lack of evidence. Realizing that a dash cam would have created the evidence I needed to fix my truck- I want to go ahead and install one so this doesn't happen again.

Another item I would like to have is a backup camera. If it was wireless so that I could move it to the back of my trailer when I'm towing- that's a huge plus.

Does anyone have any experience with an integrated Dashcam/Backup cameras? My quick Amazon search showed a bunch of brands I have never heard of before. I'd like something that looks and works like a factory part.

Trouble with that is that the wireless feed will only go so far. Too far and it keeps cutting out, poor quality pic etc. I did that for my 5th wheel trailer, but ran a cable front to back.

I bought a cheapo brand from Amazon, bought an extra camera for the trailer.......One of the cameras crapped out on me, but other than that works fine.

I have AAA. The problem was that the two of us had very conflicting stories and the damage to the cars was in line with both stories. While at first I didn't feel I was being represented, by the end of the process, I knew that it was impossible to determine fault based solely on our stories.

At this point, I'm not going to get any more worked up about it. I'll pay a dent guy to pull the dents, have a few scratches left and be done with it.

Ya it was a cheap wired system I modified. Well, just extended the connections. At one time I had the camera at the rear of the truck and one at the back of the trailer. I had a connector at the rear bumper of the truck so I could switch between truck and trailer.

It took about 4-5 years and it melted down the screen. maybe I should upgrade sometime.

Oh and a wireless system doesn't work for shit when the camera is 40-ish feet back.

I bought a cheapy Walmart dash cam for my work truck after too many close calls and people blowing stop signs out in bfe. It was like $30. It does its job. But you can get a MUCH nicer one on Amazon for under $100.
My advice. Big sd card. Like 32gb or 64gb if it'll work with whatever you get.
My 4gb fills up too fast. It locks the video from hard potholes and train tracks. The sensor thinks it's been in an accident. I have it turned all the way down. But it's a rough riding truck. So unless i reach up and manually unlock it every time I hit a bump. It'll fill up.

I put this one in the wife's car.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o06_s00

highest TVL I could find in a cheap china camera.
It works well. Comes with a little shoe to mount it not on the license plate as well.

No advice on the DVR section since its running to the head unit, but I have been looking at these:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/MINI-...9-e7308ecb894f

and then piping it's output into one of the head unit's aux video channels so you can control/review it.

Does anyone have experience with the one from apptronics? It's one of the few that has all the features I'm looking for.

Combo units are very rarely as good as the single items they are trying to replace. Get a good dash cam and get a good backup cam. There's really not a huge benefit in trying to combine them.

This is what I get from my ~$70 dash cam:

Not bad quality...especially for night.

I have a mini 0806 cam and it works good. Great night video and it has a video out port but I haven't tried it.

Installed this backup camera in my truck for $20. Wired into the Kenwood head unit I installed. Works great especially considering the price tag.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o03_s00

It looks like they aren't selling that one anymore, but I'm sure you could find something similar.

I have this one Costco Rear View Camera installed on my camper, it's worked great for 3 years. You can add additional cameras for sideview, hook it up to turn signals so it switches view automatically.

I have a few on trucks at work, I really dislike the cameras that show up in the mirror, the displays are poor, and the view is really small. We have two in Kenwood Nav Systems, they are OK, but since the cameras are mounted relatively low, (on flatbeds) road spray fouls the view really quickly.

I had to mount her's real low since the tailgate handle is right above the plate. Have you found anything to combat the problem? I thought about spraying it with some pam and seeing if it helps.
It's pretty much useless after driving down a wintry road.

No, it just brings teh suck. I've thought about trying RainX, but I can't seem to remember. Since it's for work, we are required to use a spotter if one is available. Doesn't help much when we are running alone. I am usually just fine with the mirrors, but it's nice to be able to confirm in the camera that nobody is behind you.

rainx isn't a bad idea.
I'm just not sure if it would eat the plastic lens or not. Pretty sure cheap china camera doesn't have glass.

dash cams are so cheap now a days. my rear one was $25 and works great. i just let it roll and forget about it as it loops the clips. i check it every few weeks or so to make sure it works as the previous one quit working and when i got into a accident it didnt record, but the front one did

i never drive without now, even in customers cars at work i use my cell phone because yeah without the camera its their word against yours. dont expect anyone to take time out of their day to be a witness

heres my $25 camera

i made a compilation of some crazy lady who tailgates the crap out of everyone every morning. its a bubble view so objects are closer then they appear.

i know they sell some expensive units that would double as both, you just need one that is a multicamera set up with the screen you keep in the cab. some of those are upwards of $300 +

I finally found the damned site I was looking for

https://dashcamtalk.com/

Probably going to just order an aliexpress one based on those reviews for me.
Still interested in a front/rear setup with a hidden DVR for the wife's car.
