Just ironic i have out close to 100 miles on it un-tagged (but insured and titled) to test and tune the car without issue, but pulled over the instant it is legal.

True, but I only live 1/2 mile from the sheriffs office and passed them a few times. He just happened to pull up directly behind me at the stoplight.

Fucking pool pump motor took a shit.

Kinda figured it might bc it was a bit stuck when I went to fire it up the other day. But seemed to just have a stuck spot. Freed it and spun nice. Fired up every time since.

Turned it on tonight to backwash and do some things. Walked down to house to get stuff, got side tracked came back up about 30 min later and it was not running.... great.

Kick it back on, it fires but is loud and struggling. about 15 seconds later it losses a leg and half trips.

Grab some tools and pull the back cover to disconnect electric to bring it inside and look at. The smell of all the magic smoke leaving more or less told me it was done.

Not a huge deal, as it is old but just one more thing to add to the list of things to get done yesterday - bc I am gone all next week for work.

Amazon had an entire new motor/pump but don't want to spend $440 on a $150 motor, prob is non of the motors that fit are prime. Week min for delivery.

Time to go check my stash of pool parts and see what I may have saved for 'no good reason' over the years. Vaguely recall I might have saved a motor as I am writing this.

pull the tstat on the backhoe (or any engine/car that's sitting in the yard)
extend radiator hoses
voila, pool heater and pump in one

Congradulations! I dropped my keys and badges on my Bosses Desk 10 years ago this coming July 31st on my 58th birthday. I have never regretted doing it. And I've been so busy I can't understand how I ever found time to work a full time job. My plan is to live more years retired than I did working. 26 more to go!

My wife was a School Teacher and she had HELL adjusting to retirement. I was always busy in my shop so I had little time to spend holding her hand. She retired 4 years after I did, so I was well established in my busy routine. She eventually found some hobbies and girlfriends to run around with and has adjusted quite well.

I've known several who didn't make a year retired. One of my Co Worker lasted 3 weeks!

My entire career I was on the road by 5 AM. Now I don't even roll out of bed until 9.
But, I"m working in my shop until 11 or 12 midnight. It's cooler and quiter out there then.

I do have a spare motor- has a bad front bearing but it works. I recall now I replaced the unit last time.

I am gonna call around and see if I can get just a motor. If not I will swap in the noisy one and order one.

4 bolts and some wires very easy swap.

But that is for tomorrow night....

Why not just replace the bearings and shaft seal?

fastenal stocks ball bearings,
they're all pretty standard once you get them out of the motor, and they'll have a nice generic part number on them

What kind of high rent pool pump are you running that's $450.

Check Doheny.com for cheap alternatives with fast shipping.

Too bad you arent closer, I have 3 pool pumps sitting in the shop (a 1HP, 1.5HP and unknown one), if you were closer I would say stop by and you could have one.

I dug a hole on the back acreage.

3 storms filled it up.

The 100lb 10 month old puppy decided swimming was fun.

I need a bigger hole.

A hoarder like you needs more pool shit in stock. Look around for houses for sale with above ground pools, first thing new homeowners always do is tear down the pool. I've scored so much good used shit just scouting

$450 is a good price. Its a 1.5hp motor, pumping a 48,000 gal pool

Standard Hayward set up, been keeping it alive for years.

PO of my house slapped one of these on my 1.5hp pentair superflo pump somewhere along the way - it works fine but its the lower end pump- not whisper quiet.

looks like there are heyward options for the seal kit.

48k gal is a small pond - my 28k gal is all i ever wanted to deal with maintaining.

I would, I want to, but I can not find anything other than the entire set up that can be here before I leave for work for a week.

I can have the entire pump/motor I have for $435 on sat, or I can buy the motor instore for $370....

I really want to swap to pentair, but can not get one until Tue ($375). Good price but doubt work is gonna like me flying from TX to NJ to fix my pool, then fly back to MI ... though with my lay overs I can prob do it in about the same time.
