Swapped a battery from my 2nd Legacy into the 3rd Legacy, drove it out of its hole, did brakes and slapped the plates on it today. It drives great but the rears are sticking really bad. I'm probably gonna ignore it until it wastes the pads then it will get new calipers and brackets. Still needs a mirror glass, driver's sun visor and gas cap.

I now have three 1st gen Subaru Legacys parked in front of my house. By virtue of being both AWD and having a complete interior this one has the best features of the other two.

I have $18 in my pocket and trash day is tomorrow. It appears we are equally wealthy with garbage in the driveway

You're just jealous because your trash doesn't run, drive and carry BDLs on the roof.

90 f150, 4wd lariat (tape deck, power windows, carpet!)
my dad bought it from some coworker kid that later died from an od, prolly 15 years ago
been parked in the back for the last 4yrs, finally tired of looking at it so gave it to me to serve as a tractor up on my property 70mi north
swapped out the one really bad looking tire, swapped the plates from my 93 f350 onto it and hit the road
headlights don't work for whatever reason, nbd we'll be there by sundown. Cruise works, riding real nice, turn on the radio and it's on the mexican station, shit even my dd doesn't have such luxury as this "radio" contraption
5 minutes later, apparently 65 was too fast because one of the better looking tires decided to shred
statie pulls in behind with their lights on, oh great hope they don't look at the fact that there's 5 lug nuts on this here "93 f350"
no spare, got the tire off with the factory jack, doors don't lock so I took my battery with me, got a ride down to where my car was parked
got down to work to swap that one out with a trailer tire (not 1 usable 15" truck tire scavengable from the pile for a good 5 years now)
now it's dark (5:30p)
got back up to the truck and someone'd stolen my fucking lug wrench, lucky the toyota sedan I'd got a ride up there in had a 21mm lug wrench which is a slightly loose 13/16"
stripped off one of the headlight wires enough to jumper lead it over to the starter solenoid
high beams, oh well with all the lichen on the headlights they aren't blinding anyone
drove the rest of the way, butt puckered at 55

Kind of funny that the truck once had a set of 4 of those goodyear wranglers. About 11 years ago we'd got a deal on OSB, so had about a hundred sheets stacked up in the back tires squatted all to hell, got us home though. Two weeks later one of the rears blows, month after that the other one goes. Now after today we're down to one of those left. Should get some nasty mud terrains. Might just go with chains over the bald ass tires that are on it now...

Down here a 90 F150 in that condition, some asshat would be asking $3000 for it.

it's to the rot point where there's wood between the cab floor and frame to fix the really cushy ride you get when the only thing holding the seat is cab floor that's held by the rear cab mounts and trans tunnel alone
barely has park, from the cab moving forward and taking the linkage with it
the doors don't shut all the way unless you pry the rear of the cab forward
seatbelts long ago got tied off to the seat frames because they went slack when the floor disappeared
front tank had rust holes in it for years before it was even parked, rear tank might now too
got new brake lines now though

it is not even a $500 truck anymore
really really sad to see it go, I'd pay $3k in a heartbeat for a rust-free one with as nice an interior as this one's got. It's basically peak-pickup in my opinion.

Fuel injected so it starts and runs nice, but not obd2 with all the bullshit associated
longbox for the hauling things
standard cab for that great visibility
inline 6 because 100hp is plenty anyways
e4od for that lovely torque converter for pulling on trees while cutting them down instead of burning the shit out of a clutch trying to tension the rope

When do you guys even park shit in the weeds down there?
I mean it isn't like the cabs rot out to the point of unusability, or the frames rot in half.

Is it just a "well hell I dun did rant it outta coolant and cracked the head" sorta deal?
I'm just so used to perfectly running stuff being totally unrepairable due to rot...

People just dont keep up on maintenance, run it till shit starts breaking then either try to sell it or park it. Others will keep up on stuff and keep it nice, then think run of mill stuff is "classic, rare, hard to find, etc" snd want way too much $.

When the cost of repairs are more than the vehicle. Not everyone is mechanically inclined, shady mechanics quote thousands, etc. EX: a rust free running and driving 2000 honda accord is only worth $1500. Tires, a/c, and a timing belt are $1500, it gets parked.

Meskins will drive absolute garbage with no insurance and play bumper cars until it runs no more. leave it on the side of the road and start over.

but that's just wrong thinking
my dd (02 golf TDI) really isn't worth a $300 timing belt kit on the used market, but to replace it with something similar in function would be far more money than that with unknown problems of its own

I suppose you all probably see old people that do just keep fixing their shit and they're still dding a 64 falcon they bought new or whatever

San Antonio is an odd market. I always find better stuff in Houston and Dallas areas. But anything that is 70s-90's, 4x4 or not a run of the mill throw away car seems to just be up for sale for ridiculous prices. Like older dodge and ford diesels. Clapped out, but "cummins bro legendary powerstroke" and suddenly its priced higher than giraffe pussy.

that's common around here too, guy I know took out a loan to buy a $14k 03 dodge with 300k miles, needing everything replaced (auto trans rebuild, tcase had been run dry, both axles were howling, ball joints loose, pissing oil everywhere...)

whereas my IDI f350 was $650, needing the same amount of work, but...

Different strokes. Between everyone trying to keep up with the jonses, theyve grown accustomed to a monthly payment.

The sub $5k "cash" market is flooded with vehicles. The cars dont rust/rot, junkyards are plentiful with parts, drives the market down and typically not worth fucking with trying to sell. Right now the 80s-early 90s are getting a resurgence in popularity. Majority of the late 90s vehicles have no value and stuck in limbo between classic and modern.

The shop needs to get my truck finished before I lock my wife in the storage shed. Nothing but bitchy lately.

Can't even ask simple questions without getting some sort of smart ass response instead of a normal answer.

I think this is why women get beaten...

details?

I almost pulled the trigger on a 97 Ram v-8 with 125k miles. Needs body work, leaking coolant, and has spongy brakes. Right shoulder said "Dooooo it" in Arnold's voice, and left shoulder said "It's $700 for a reason, walk away and buy a welder instead".

Still thinking about it...cuz i need a truck, but i need a welder too.
