Going back to my regular job Monday. Boss said we have work again. Still looking for another job though. Should be interesting to see how much more "organized" they made things. There was never a set start/end time. It was show up between 6-8, work 8 hours or more and go home. Owner of parent company took the reigns and everything is changing..yet another reason to leave

Been building cabinets lately for a house I?m building
Straight grain Douglas Fir, from a massive tree we took down to make room for the house

Been installing them this week, I'll get some photos today.

The face frames are glued and screwed together with pocket screws. The backsides of the rails and stiles have 3/8x3/8 grooves. The dividers have a 3/8 x 3/8 rabbet on the front edge, and the box is built with the face frame facing down, using glue and bar clamps.

Ain't a single nail in the face frame this way.

How I lernt to build 'em, in the 70s.

Thanks to engineering specing the wrong pipe reducers and the contractor not verifying before fabrication, I now have a $5000 matched pair of hastalloy bookends.

So whats the reason of building the cabinets as apposed to buying them? Does the customer just have to much money and thought it would be cool to use wood from the property?

I agree its a cool project, i just cant think of a more expensive rout to take. What will the set end up costing?

I dont know what it is, but being able to say "the cabinets are custom made" to me is like saying "Ive got a 12" dick"

I f'in love custom cabinets.

We're about 80% done with some railing around around the deck of a house for a customer. It's all 2x2 sq tube with welded wire center. It looks great. I'll have to get pics.

No pics handy, but noting like taking a 4.5" x 9" hunk of hastalloy and machining 75% of it away into a 2x4 reducer. I am thinking of how to get them polished up but that will have to be a government job for another day.

Nice! I love to build cabinets as long as I design them. Nothing worse to me than fucking filler pieces! So called kitchen designers seem to like them though. I would rather spend a little extra and have custom cabinets over store bought any day. What are the doors going to look like?

Just got back from lunch at Hooters, the girls were in their Halloween costumes, one in particular dressed as a Zombie, white tee, red bra, short black shorts , I was tempted to buy a red bra for the wife on the way home
It was sooooo fucking loud in there me and my buddy almost didn't stay, their food isn't "that" good. Fawk football.

I have some people coming to view some dogs for a security company later. I cleaned my training field, come in to eat. Head back out and there’s leaves all over it. I was not thrilled.

Well now I need to clean a few dogs, then the field agin.

Yes, I really like working here. Yes, we're always busy. New sites, fiber, LTE, and on and on.
We have an opening for tower construction.

These cabinets will last a Century. Instead of being modules, they are pieces up to 10' long. They are also highly customized to accommodate pullouts, pantry hardware, etc.

My prices, less finishing, are about on par with the higher end cabinets sold at Home Depot.

This set will run about $30,000 by the time were done installing them.

The panels are full 3/4" plywood, some with melamine faces, some with Doug Fir veneer.

Traditional Raised Panels, made from the same wood, and all from the same tree.

I pussed out and hired another cabinet shop to make 'em, since I'm running out of time on the install. The countertop guy is coming in about 6 hours to measure for the soapstone counters. They have better equipment anyway, although I do have a shaper with a 1" spindle I'm selling. Those fuckers scare the shit outta me, ever since I saw a guy damn near lose a hand to one. Would rather farm it out.

I took 'em 200 bd. ft. of knot free butterflied boards the other day.

Back at my regular job, wanted to talk to my boss about getting laid off and some other things....he's not here today Came back to my table moved(and NOT are leveled) with a fixture welded to it..out of level even more than the table. Pointed it out to the guy who did it, he didn't care.

Yep, it's Monday. Still have my dirt bike in the truck, thinking about just saying fuck this and go riding

Pretty much sums it up. People like custom, sometimes just for the sake of it. I had a guy once pay be a lot of money to fix up a custom swing set so that his 18yo son could still use it.

When the customer is willing to pay they get what they want.

On the flip side, when the customer wants to be a cheap ass and half ass a project, it pisses me off.

Found my white privilege today...

Bought a car and after loading it up and grabbing the title he asked me how much higher I would've gone. I replied a hundred or two before I walked away. I asked why I was the lucky guy who got to pick it up and the reason was, "you sounded white in your email."

Apparently, I was the only one who attempted to write in complete and coherent sentences.
