Dashcam App

Spinoff of Haole's thread. Basic search turned up older threads with dashcams but I don't want to buy another single use camera. There are apps for everything now days. Anyone have a suggestion for a IPhone dashcam app? Paid or better yet free?

theres a guy on youtube im subscribed to HaloMasterMind117 that uses a iphone as his dash camera... he uploads like 10 minutes a weak of just insane driving and near accidents

if you cant find anything you can try emailing him and asking him what app he used, i messaged him like a month ago asking what camera he uses as i wanted to buy one and he told me just a iphone.

if you cant find one cant you just put it on video and let it record? when i drive customers cars at work i use my old blackberry and just do that. but thats only for like 5-10 minutes at a time

Curious myself, would be handy use for old/spare phone on any out of ordinary trips we take.

side note/PSA

cell batteries don't like extreme heat, so if using cell as dash cam don't leave in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
not that it'll burn your car to ground day 1, but it could get bad after a while.

Good point. My iphone I had used to shut down on me all the time when I was on the lake and it was out in the sun on the boat playing tunes. Close it up in the car and I bet it would melt like a chocolate bar.

This. I've used it extensively on an old Android. It's pretty good. Downsides are that it is buggy (at least in Android form) and will not automatically overwrite files when the SD card is full.

I bought one of these because a few on here told me they kick ass and I didn't want to drop coin on a gopro, it has a dashcam setting that I've been playing with, works damn good.

That looks like a rebadged 2nd or 3rd gen gopro. You can get a gopro under 100 bucks but it will be the older non 4k unit.

It's a knock off of the 3 or 4. Comes with a shit ton of mounts. Has a LCD screen and bluetooths to my phone for operation.

I seriously recommend it. It had a ton of Mount and three batteries

I have heard that they have knock offs of the knock off that suck balls. Get one that actually says sjcam or whatever on the front.

That's the exact one I bought. Doesn't show all the accessories but it comes with them.

Mine seemed to work on my S4, I did define a max memory amount in the options and it overwrites after abut 15 minutes. Id use it more if I had an extra phone for sure.

I shoot a little video with it today in 1080p running out of my creek in the boat. I'm liking it.

It does have a smudge just right of center from a good size scratch I put in it dropping it on concrete... don't hold that against the camera. Good news is for $90 I'm gonna grab another and this one will be my back up/under truck, don't care if it gets beat up beater/beater camera.

That's pretty good looking for a cam half the price of a gopro. Guess I'll have to get one once I get my jeep road worthy again.

I'm happy. If it wasn't for my dumb ass dropping it it wouldn't have that smudge.

I use the autoboy blackbox app on my Galaxy S6. I have a cheap windshield mount for it and the app is set to autostart when the phone connects with the car blue tooth and autostop at disconnect. You can limit the recording times and space on the phone as well. I just delete old recordings easily since it puts them in its own folder.

It has a crash alert that autodials for you and saves the recording as well. My only complaint is my phone does get warm up in the windshield even in mild weather. I don't leave my phone in the car, so there is no motion recording of course like some dash cams. The thread is about app usage though, so thought I'd throw out what app I use.
