Just thought this needed re-posting. Not every employer is a millionaire+ running a big company. It's going to affect everyone from hours worked to cost of living going up.

If minimum wage doesn't even provide you with same quality of life you'd get in prison (food, clothing, shelter, health care), why bother with the job when you'd be farther ahead robbing a bank?
That bum could get more than the bare minimum if he wanted. He took less than the bare minimum because he isn't even willing or sane enough to work for that. Why the fuck is that my problem again?

I did farm work, mowed a lot of lawns, and even helped a family friend install Christmas lights for $10/hr in the 90's one winter before I ever worked a legit taxable job. First one was a summer camp when I was 14. We stayed on site and worked more than 40 hours but it was camp work, it's more of a "salary".

Next was a fry cook at a restaurant. I made a dollar over minimum wage and got a $1/hr raise after a few months. The next several jobs were in the $10-12 range when minimum wage was $5.15 and then bumped to $6.25? Fuck I didn't care, I never had trouble making more.

I don't understand any of this "minimum wage" stuff.

when I was 14, I got a job doing dishes at a hippy vegetarian restaurant in Auburn Ca.

I was homeless when I got the job, and it allowed me to get a place with a roommate, pay bills, go to school, and survive.

I was poor, but I still got by, and got on my feet. On. Minimum. Wage.

When we lost everything in 2008, and I couldn't find a job in Ca. that would support us, you know what we did?

We MOVED TO A PLACE THAT WE COULD AFFORD TO LIVE IN.

we went to rural texas, where I got a job and was able to buy a house, and get us back on our feet.

our neighbors BOUGHT A HOUSE WHILE MAKING MINIMUM WAGE.

I don't get why people can't understand the simple concept of living where you can afford to live, not trying to make people give you more so you can live where you want.

It's not buying individual meals, it's called eating the same shit for multiple days....have you never watched documentaries on being a cheap ass?
Plenty of people have proven over time it's possible to survive with WAY less money then people think if you aren't a dumbass.

What some people call a meal and what is called a "surviving" meal is what people don't understand. Bacon and eggs and orange juice is not a surviving meal. Neither is pasta and a tri tip sandwich for lunch. Nor is a portion the size of your fucking head a "surviving" meal

Hell I spend maybe $25 a month on groceries, about $100 a month eating out ...I eat at work for free..including steak and salmon....pho....tri tip...ribs...whatever the fawk I want....but I also have the luxury of not being a fucking twatard and working at dickbrains emporium for $9 a hour.....why do I have this luxury? Because I use to be poor, and I fucking hated it. So I changed it. I didn't cry like a baby because I was stuck at Burger King or stuck at PetsMart for 7 years..... Like many many others can do with their lives.
If you don't wanna be poor, don't be fucking poor. It's a very simple concept that apparently people can't grasp.

Ain't no way you're buying a house ANYWHERE in California on minimum wage.

That's why California needs a higher minimum than elsewhere.

I never got minimum wage, unless you count my farm and ranch work, which I don't since it was just me doing jobs as a pre-working age kid and if you calcd the hours was probably less.

I worked at a local theme park for just 10 cents over minimum wage, guess it was just so they could say they paid over minimum.

What the fuck you mean?

You can buy a POS fixer upper/mobile home for $50-80k if you look around...mortgage would be less then $500 on that.
Sure it's bum fuck Egypt but it is possible

I think you guys are missing the big picture here....

Gov Moonbeams is giving California back to Mexico...If they can get here, they can get medical, housing, food subsidies, etc ....so what's wrong with a little more money to go with those drivers licenses.

almost forgot... don't they get help now getting into college????

You should not be able to buy a house on minimum wage. 50% of the people who make minimum wage are under 25--they have no business buying a house.

Fuck you socialists. Now we owe every loser a hot and a cot... And a house?

why do you NEED or DESERVE to buy a house on minimum wage?

and my house on 2.5 acres was $55k in 2014. my house payment is $461/mo including taxes & ins.

so yes, you can. You just don't get to Choose anywhere you want. the whole point of home ownership is that it is something you strive for, not deserve.

at $15/hr, you can't afford to buy a house in San Francisco, so should we raise the minimum wage in San Francisco to $30/hr? guess what's going to happen to the cost of living there if you do. It's going to get more expensive.

I really don't understand the idea that everyone should own a home. Not only does it not make sense for some people economically, but not everyone will take care of one either. you will have a lot of dilapidated slums when/if that happens.

Guess why I don't live in NYC? Yeah, I can't fucking afford it. There are neighborhoods that I can't afford in my own area. Guess why I don't live in them. I can't afford Seattle. Yeah, I don't live there either. See how hard this is? Don't fucking live places that you cannot afford to live. It's that easy. All a $15 minimum wage will do is hyper-inflate everything even more. Simple economics is all one needs to understand that inflation doesn't make things more affordable.

That's why we moved out to Tx. for almost 5 years. when we figured we could afford to live here again, we did.

real "out of the box" thinking huh? it's almost like common sense.

I know people in Rocklin, Ca. who complain about the cost of living there, but won't move because they tell me "I grew up here!"

If you don't work hard enough to afford the cost of living in a nice area, then you have to move.

I see no reason someone should be raising kids or buying a home on the same wage that a 14yo with a work permit earns.

hell, my house is an hour outside of sacramento. It's more expensive to live in a mobile home park than it is to pay the mortgage on my house I've actually had people tell my wife and I "I can't imagine driving that far for work" It's an hour. I'd rather drive an hour at 65mph, than drive an hour averaging 25mph in stop and go traffic, and have the savings be more than the cost of fuel + maintenance.
