I've used bacon grease to make candles before. We usually just put ours into a can that we keep in the fridge until full then throw away.

Hope you don't have a septic tank. The grease will collect up into a ball inside the septic tank, then plug up the pipe the liquid flows through. Hell of a mess.

Bacon fat gets saved for future cooking and mostly for applying to dog shit in my front yard.

The dog shit issue is what got me to saving it in the first place.

Anything that I fry, gets fried in bacon fat: eggs, liver & onions, the list is endless.

I also save and render the big globs of chicken fat that you get when you buy a whole fryer (you can save the un-rendered fat in the freezer until you're ready to use it). I use it in the place of shortening when I'm making pastry (a trick my Austrian grandmother taught me). You'll never have a lighter, flakier strudel or pie crust. Don't use it in cakes though, they come out so light they crumble when you attempt to frost them.

As someone that has done commercial and residential plumbing I offer this advice: DON'T POUR YOUR ANIMAL FAT DOWN THE DRAINS!

House is heated primarily with wood so if too much bacon grease accumulates I burn it. It's a good fire starter/accelerator.

A year or two.

Why are you putting bacon grease on dog shit?

We put it in a jar in the freezer, we use it to cook with some time in the future. How the hell do you all cook without it?

How do you fry eggs, taters, every thing else. How do you season kale, beans, etc.?

Guess I dont cook enough stuff that creates grease (except bacon). When I do bacon its baked at 325 in the convection oven with parchment paper to keep steel cookie sheet cleanup down to a mild roar...what bacon grease is left is put on the dog food. NO the pups arent fat...too busy chasing the local deer and turkeys out o the yard

The rest of my cooking is mostly Indian Far Eastern (cholesterol reasons) and uses coconut oil and clarified butter. IF its in volume such as a deep fat fry recipe the oil ends up in a jar and pitched in the trash, never down the drain.

I make a nice amaerican breakfast every Sunday. Last sunday's bacon grease (thick cut bacon) fuels the hashed-brows, eggs and a jump start on the new bacon. Pancakes get the butter.

This ^^^

Unless we are cooking bacon to be used in a dish for lunch or dinner. Green beans for example... we'd use some of the bacon grease to saute green beans, then add the cooked bacon to the beans

When I lived on a golf course I would pour it over the fence onto the fairway. Now, I'll poor it on the dog's food.

I don't drain the bacon fat. I just throw some bread in the pan while it's still warm and let it suck it up. Then I eat the bread.

I let it cool a bit and dump into the dog bowl along with dry food. Not too often I have pan grease so it's a treat.

You are obviously at cooking at level 1.
You can't fry a decent egg with butter, nor fry it in cast iron.

Olive oil is my preferred oil, but it lacks in all the areas I mentioned.
