Well that's different. Sounds like your dogs are as useful as mine at guarding the house past 8 PM.

Yep, it's pretty common practice.

Nah, they should let him\electrician change the main and then come back and make it hot, ''under an emergency''. So he doesn't spend the night in the dark.

Friends house just burned pretty good due to a power strip overloading and catching fire. Fire department pulled the meter so they could fight the fire. Got the panel inspected again and the power company put the meter back in. Electrician was doing some work in the house and flipped shit on and got some weird readings. Checked the main legs eventually and one was giving 180+ volts and climbing. Power company came out to investigate and found the overhead at the pole was broken and grounding out (?) and causing over voltage in the house so they fixed it. Guess who's on the hook for the fire.

I'm suprised the lab didn't wake up, I'm sure the front yard had to be lit up with police, town truck, what not

Yep. Underground utilities down the street but we're at corner (will never do that again) so meter and breaker box on pole.

I thought I was going crazy not finding meter on house

You had an open neutral. You could potentially have a lot of smoked equipment on your hands.

The guy from the electric co-op gave me his cell phone #, said he lived 2 miles away and "call him anytime, even middle of the night" when electrician was done. I had electrician install the box, we called the PEC dude about 9:30, he showed up 5 minutes later, he and electrician fixed a neutral junction neither of them were happy with in the meter can and flipped fuse/installed meter

Now to get the accident report to let the insurance company get the happy news

btw, that guardrail end is quite heavy

one of my trees fell and took out neighbor's line. it was 6 days before they got it restored. mostly because nothing could be done until city permitted and the work was completed on a friday night and city didn't come until mid monday

Yeppers, the call is a broken neutral. I'd say that one is indeed broken.
