40 was open again today, so we made it to Emerald isle for our vacation. pretty normal here, power is on. there is still a "curfew" after dark. there was a lot of flooding on the way, pretty devastating stuff. I heard there were like 1000 people still stranded by flood waters. Thoughts to everyone affected

I'm well. Thanks for thinking of me. I'm not a crazy prepper but I am fairly well-prepared for most scenarios. This hurricane showed me how well I've done prepping. It didn't take much for me to be on the move, but I could use a couple more items.

It also showed me how unprepared most people are and what bad judgment many have. Nobody has a plan. People freak out and fighting happens. It takes very little for civility to break down. Afterward, all it takes is traffic stopping for people to become dependent upon rescue from others.

This is on the low end of the disaster spectrum. I can only imagine how society would break down in a major calamity.

On a good note, I'm about to have a shitload of work. LOL

Going through Sandy was a wake up call for me to be better prepared. One thing I was surprised at was how well the community came together. Other than some misguided youth coming over form a local urban area there was no looting. Local resturants that had no power and no hope of getting it on quickly just cooked everything they had and gave away meals for donations to local charities. I was pleasantly surprised. Some of the other local towns did not fair as well.

Good luck and dry clothing to all affected.

Unfortunately, they live there. Fortunately, they take their house with them whenever they travel.

We got bad flooding in Wayne county NC, power is on for some of the rural areas but some sections will be out of power till the 16th.
Base housing at Seymour Johnson flooded out. All the schools are closed for the week and there is a boil water policy in effect until further notice.
Tomorrow I get to remove all the stinking carpet from the flooded floor.

I've got a high school friend that just retired from SJ but lives up in the Goldsboro area asking on FB about the roads outside of town. The responses sounds like it's still pretty bad up that way.

My sister, down in Richmond County just go power back on yesterday. Seems a few of the major highways there were ponds as well. And the waste-water treatment plant flooded over.

My cousin there didn't make it seem to bad. Seems the NC/SC border area and east of 95 caught the worst of it.

Thinking about driving down there this weekend to help. But I'll only be in Raleigh for 3 days so don't know if I will have time.

They got flooding saturday and that closed roads down around the city but I don't know after that.
Wife drove Uber in Raleigh Saturday and said it was a mess with so much rain.

We got clobbered, Wayne County is literally cut in half by the Neuse river right now, nothing can move.

good to hear you are good man... just got power back a this evening. we got really lucky for sure... no trees on house and no flooding in house... few houses down the road had an easy foot of water inside their houses.

this is my 6th hurricane so we know the ins and outs for prepping wise...

lucky for us we didn't have to go out and deal with the public...

worst thing was 4 am the boat horn shorted... aggrevateing fukking noise... had to wade out to the boat and cut power to the speaker
