Who wants to buy a house?? WTF...

This is probably the most bizarre listing I've seen in a long time. I mean, I can understand buying as is... but the rest is very strange.

Ssomeone is squatting on the upstairs property and has some sort of loophole/law/court thing going on where it cannot be shown.

If I had to guess.

Occupant has never paid, and no security deposit is being held, but there is a lease in place. (Yes, it does not make sense, please don't bother asking.)

They probably wrote a $0 lease to friend, relative, or owner to get some free rent.

Buy house for less than asking price.

1. Tent
2. Fumigate
3. Profit.

I'd roll in with an excavator, grapple and a couple rolloffs and start from scratch.

I'd need a copy of the lease. Eviction is a bitch. Then demo the house.

Remove the person living upstairs before you do any paperwork.

Yep it'd be quite a bitch that I can only repair to roof in the early mornings and late nights and that it will take months to get right. After I worked on it it would leak worse only over the upstairs unit.

Post notice, fumigate house, repeatedly. When sloth leaves the attic, toss stuff in a dumpster, change locks, refuse reentry. Hope it doesn't threaten you with bodily harm.

Demo the exterior stairs.

Set stereo to 11 24/7 with Rick Atsley & something with Bass.

Problem solved.

sounds like a lifetime lease to a family member. You could figure out the age and afflictions of the upstairs resident and figure out the cost of waiting them out. Betting the asking price of the house already reflects that.

That's the only thing that even half-way makes sense.

What kind of family dynamic has that got to be, that the sloth won't leave and the owner's trying to sell anyway?!

That may be more difficult in SC than one would expect. When we were looking at house last year, there was a house that was short saled, that the previous owners were still living in and the new owners were going to have to do the eviction. Never looked into it cause there were better locations that weren't occupied.

I dont think a "lifetime lease" travels with the deed IIRC. Its only applicable when the leasor has ownership of the property. Once the deed changes hands to a third party, the "lifetime lease" is null and void unless the new owner agrees to honor the lease.

Unless there is some wacky thing where someone, somehow, attached a weird document to a deed relating to this. If so, though, you wouldnt be able to sell the house regardless then until the person upstairs dies. So who knows...

Well it depends on how the lease was written. Its very possible that it was written where its just a contract between two specified individuals. Then there is always the option to hire a couple mexicans to move all the renters stuff into a moving pod.

If someone is renting a room in the house, i can about guarantee they can't afford to take you to court or figure out how to do so

IIRC it took my parents 8 months to remove a family once.
