TrackR tilemate tracker thingy for vehicles?

Anybody have a legit way to track vehicles without using some monthly service?

I saw an online ad for the trackr Bluetooth key tracker thing and started thinking of ways to use them to track a vehicle.

What's good? They seem like cheap ways to locate stolen vehicles.

HAM radio dudes have a small transponder that pings it's location to the repeater network. I can log on and at anytime tell where my buddies truck is. It got stolen one time and he called PO-leece and they told him to file insurance claim. He said he knew where it was, they said they were too busy. He said he and a few of his armed friends were on their way to that location. Popo showed up, and he got his truck back.

What happens when you walk away from a blue tooth speaker with your phone in your pocket? Not the same as gps

Bluetooth's range would make it possible to find your stolen car. From 30 feet away.

As far as OPS question, there is a NFC device that goes on a bicycle that does what he is looking for. If the bike is reported stolen to the app, it crowd sources data from everyone that has the app. If your stolen bike is in the area of an enabled phone it will notify you the location.
