How to numb yourself for self operation. Usmcdoc?

I have a hard sore swollen lump about the size of a small marble under the skin on my forearm. I assume I got a sliver deep under the skin and it got infected. It won't pop and having a needle into it only releases a little pus. Is there a way to numb myself so I can make an insision about a 1/4" deep? Yeah yeah, don't be a pussy. So far it doesn't warrent a doctor visit and copay.

Mine as well.

I'd just cut it out with no topicals. But I also self-pierced my tongue with a blowgun dart. A sharp scalpel on a lump sounds easy.

I've had pretty good luck using oragel to do similar self surgery, chemical Ice packs work well also.

I witnessed a former coworker use liquid propane from a towmotor tank to numb his smashed finger to allow him to finish ripping the fingernail off and that seemed to work well for him. YMMV as well as the infection and or blood poisioning.

Anbesol or the like(Kanka/orajel) is the strongest otc numbing agent I'm aware of. That shit will numb everything it touches in my experience.

Before cutting yourself open have you tried raising it to the surface via hot compress?

Put ice on the area until numb, then lance with a new xacto knife blade?

I did that once on a boil I had on my thigh, it felt great afterwards

Do you have insurance?

Where is it on your arm, it would really suck to hit a nerve or something important and fuck up your arm for life... (though as superficial as this is it is doubtful)

I would never do this, but if I was going to I would look at cutting off blood supply using a tourniquet. Ever wake up and your arm/hand was numb cuz you were sleeping on it? Same thing.

Or drink some whiskey....

Same here but a couple of needles and some lidocaine might be a good thing to have around.

you could always toss on a tourniquet if you are afraid your wife might go too deep 'on accident'

hour on that, plus a bunch of ice...you'll be okay until the bloodflow comes back

Just go out into the garage and start using sharp objects doing your best NOT to cut it. It shouldn't take too long to have it filleted open...

You can buy a local topical lidocane from the pharmacy for back pain. It may have menthol in it, but whatever. Use ample amount of lidocane and wrap the area with plastic wrap to isolate and keep it on there for about 5 minutes. Should be numb for what you are doing. Will still suck a little until you get deeper from the surface.

Have betadine for surgical prep and make sure all of your instruments are cleaned and isolated on a gauze pad for sanitation.

I get boils pretty often on top of my head and on the back of my neck. So I have a good "cut man" on hand being my brother-in-law. Although zits to be popped off each other's ass is a bit too far, we do semi-crazy shit for each other when asked like shoot and bury each other's animals when needed and such.

Another person to do the cutting is nice for there's no flinching and it gets done immediately. I use ice for like 20-30 minutes while taking shots of liquor. He just cuts deep with an exacto and when the puss comes out they heal in a day or so like nothing happened.

I use Neosporin afterwards as well.

I've had to dig deep. A sharp double edge razor blade does not hurt that much when you cut down to the problem.
